I'm just wondering what people might have stumbled on recently. When I started reading this site, I was sometimes a bit overwhelmed by the advertised prices on various sites for some of the lesser know, but still high quality offerings that were reviewed on this site. My own personal example was finding Sloche's debut LP J'un Oeil for $4 at Spin-It, my local second hand record shop, while a dealer in New Jersey (who has a link available from this site) was asking $25usd plus shipping. Mind you, after buying Conventum's debut, I was talking to the shop's owner & mentioned this info re : Sloche. Since then, more than 20 LPs from the 70s Quebec Prog scene have come in, & his prices have come up. I bought COnventum for $6, he's now got another copy selling for $12. And he has taken the extra step of labellling them as Quebec Prog, & also checking Ebay & similar sites in Europe to ensure he's getting "fair market " value. Still, his prices beat those I've found on selling sites, and allow me more leeway to explore those overlooked gems.
So far - Et Cetera, Caramel Mou, Morse Code - Procreation, Breche - Carapace et Chair Tendre , Eclipse, Le Match - Legendes. Now if I can only get my record player going again to upload these beauties to computer & burn them onto CD. Once done, I'll sharing reviews with you all.

I'm always hoping to find Eros by Dun or some Magma but the most obscure I've gotten is PFM and Hatfield and the North.

A good used record store is priceless-- on CD I've found rare KC like 'Absent Lovers' and Night Watch', old Bo Hansson, U.K., Zappa, ELP's 'Live in Poland', Egg, and National Health.

If you list your city, I'm sure some of our members could help you out with addresses. In a lot of cases, your local "alternative" press may have ads or listings. But in some cases, it's word of mouth. A lot of these are run by music freaks as a labour of love, so the advertising budget is practically nil, outside of word of mouth. Good Luck & good hunting.

Here in Atlanta, the first hand record shops are bad at stocking good stuff.  But, you can't beat a good second hand shop when it comes to browsing CD's and discovering new stuff sometimes.  I've been fortunate to have decent used music stores in my area for quite some time.  Some come and go, but some hang around.

Shopping on the internet usually involves having to know what you are looking for.  Lately, it's been all internet mail order for me.   More stuff out there I'm interested than time or money forCry

Without naming names, though I can, there's a really good internet source I've bought tons of stuff through, used, new, from individuals, from businesses...

There is a Web site who got the inventory of a bunch of used stores around the world and where you can buy online www.gemm.com.

Here in Quebec Canada (Montreal and Quebec) we got a lot of used stores. Some of them is now online or will be soon (they got e Web site, but no catalog). In Quebec City you got Musique du Faubourg were you can buy online.

In my case second hand record stores are like oasis of good music because many prog artists had their albums released in LP and never had been released in CD in Brazil. Unfortunately here in Brazil CDs are expensive and imported ones are much more, so with luck one can buy 10 second hand records in good condition for the price of one new imported CD. If it wasn't the second hand record shops, I wouldn't have almost any prog album.

And surely I'm always finding good things in these shops (though some are not cheap like the common prog albums like Yes, Genesis, PF, etc).

My most recent purchase in a second hand shop is a vinyl copy of Art Zoyd's Musique pour l'Odyssée. I've also found a vinyl copy of Univers Zéro's first album, which I haven't bought because of a lack of money. I hope now one has bought it yet, because I will have money pretty soon.

Ah, I remember vividly the day I wandered into my local vinyl shop and bought Harmonium's second album because the cover screamed "prog!". I'd never heard of them. My life changed for the better that day.

I bought Soft Machine's Third and VdGG's Pawn Hearts on vinyl the other day. I've bought so many rare prog albums in used shop. There is about 20 used shop that I could recommend on the same street in Montreal. Walking down this street costs a lot.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.
