Yeah, there's only two albums in there. And I don't include some kind of fancy "singles off Living the Past" option because, well, this is about albums...and if you honestly can't make up your mind, then there's that third thing.
Anyway, I hadn't made a Tull poll in a while (it's been, what, a week?), and this has been in my head a bunch lately. Then again, maybe it's not so mysterious. Benefit is kind of a fan favorite, right?
While I myself love both albums dearly (FOOR STAR ALBUMS!!!!!!!! COMPARE TO GENTLE GIANT), in the end I'd give my favor to...Stand Up. Benefit has tighter musicianship (and therefore better musical quality), but Stand Up has more variety, and, more importantly, more energy. And it's got "Fatman."
(But then again, what do I know? I mean, after all, I'm only just finalizing the Moody Noobs first EP!!!)

"Benefit" remains my favourite Tull album and "Stand Up" my second! This golden period up to and including "Thick..." is, for me, their most beautiful period. With all four albums being amongst my all time top 20. I cannot give them enough praise.
And for those who might be confused - acoustic does NOT mean it's folk!

Stand up for me :) Side B is just wonderful. Sossity is my favourite one on Benefit, but I feel Stand up is somewhat better.

Every album with a song as beautiful as ''We used to know'' will always prevail. So i go with 'stand up'
My favorite Tull song with ''Black Satin Dancer'' and ''Seal Driver''
Where is ''This Was''? on this poll anyway?

Don't be - no-one did - It's just a bee in my bonnet when people describe Tull as a Prog-folk band based on little or no evidence. Two albums with a little folk influence and two early albums (the two you mention in this poll) where the acoustic guitar is prominent - casuing these to also be described as folk.

Benefit.
Don't ask why, it's something irrational. Unexplicable even for my own self.
I like Stand Up, too. Very much.
But there is something in Benefit which makes me to rate it between the top five JT albums, in my book, and, sometimes, it stands (up...) at the first place.

Always be benefit to me. With You There to Help Me, Sossity, Teacher and To Cry you a Song
Great album. I like Stand Up too but I really feel Benefit was the link of JT of the blues and JT of the prog.

50/50 split for me. Can't separate the two. Stand Up has lighter moments were Benefit has heavier.
I'll play them back to back and make it a double.

Benefit, it was my first Tull album and still my second favorite after Aqualung

Stand Up and Benefit. Two wonderful albums, indeed!
Of the two, Stand Up remains the most classical JT's contribution to rock and I usually prefer to listen to it.
On the other hand, Benefit is darker and has some of the most catching and inspired hard rock blues guitar's riffs Martin even composed...To Cry You a Song! The backward flute effect in the fantastic opener With You There to Help Me is ... is... memorable as well.
In conclusion, two wonderful albums, as I said, and I love both. But Stand Up has that something more...oh, it's Bourée...  |

The toughest choice in a PA poll ever.
Objectively, Benefit is a little bit more advanced, superb, challenging,whatever...but Stand Up is little bit closer to my heart....so I won't be a tie-breaker neither.

Stand up! This is pure Tull style. Benefit is more produced, although it's still an outstanding album. Stand up is more powerful.
