The Japanese band SILO, LE is probably better known in their home country but they are loved by members in this forum as well and this was a compliment and surprise for singer and pianist Miyako Kanazawa.
If you haven't heard them, then go here to read the review by Chris (Syzygy) of 8.8:
http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=107626

http://www7.ocn.ne.jp/~tolsilo/contents/lesiloeigo.html

The first album was as if they took the best of past RIO bands and bundled it all up in there. The second, I find to be an album in which they start carving a more personal sound of their own.

But you be the judge. What do you think of them and do you have a favourite among these two?

Tough one!

I know 8.8 better that 3.27830, but I can certainly here more originality in 3.27830, so it'll probably be the one I love more... this is not fair, both are amazing albums!

Not voting yourself, Assaf?

I probably need more listens, (and you know I hate to choose and vote) but I finally settled on 3.27830.

I settled on 8.8, but as I said, 3.27830 hasn't sunk in yet.

Check it out as soon as you can, Memo.  It's one of the few albums I've received recently that I played as soon as I got it.  I put on 8.8 and 3.27380 back-to-back.

I love 8.8 but I haven't got 3.278 yet. A phenomenal band indeed!

Consider me unsettled.... Back to 8.8. There seems to many first efforts that I find to be simply better than following albums, can't pinpoint exactly why....

Anyone else interested in this band? Simply Google Le Silo (preferably with one of their album names) and you'll learn more...

Glad you also enjoyed their new one, it's going off on a slightly different direction, but it's still got that familiar Le Silo sound.

I'm glad they didn't repeat their previous formula.

I have 8.8 and it's awesome. I hope to order the new one soon. Until I have it, I won't vote.

Wow, listening to 3.27830 for the second time here... This is so crazy, and in such a good way. I don't know about the first album, but I hear a lot of Zeuhl in this one - it has that flowing, hypnotic mood at times, plus all the crazy vocals and piano melodies. But they never stay in one spot for too long. They're very vivid and I love that - the constant energy discharges are a sign of great passion, I would say.

One thing that fits them very well and gives them a darker and more sombre edge is the wonderful guitar riffs and solos - there's much power in that and the solos really make the whole thing less "dry" than some RIO-related bands sometimes tend to become. However, I'm still not a great fan of the Japanese-style semi-onomatopoeic vocals, but at least this isn't as bad as Ruins. Big%20smile

I seem to be particularly enjoying "Lexture" (which I find more exciting than any Magma I've listened to, if only for the variety and restlessness of the melodies), the brilliant build-up in "Numazapa" (now that's serious drumming madness), as well as the very evocative "An Abandoned Town". Great album and another entry in my 2006 top ten (after discovering the latest Aghora, Estradasphere, Forgotten Silence, Terje Rypdal or Deluge Grander in retrospective, I'm coming to the conclusion that 2006 was an extremely interesting year musically after all).
