Wink We know KEVIN AYERS as a founder of SOFT MACHINE and an important persona pf the Canterbury myth.

We also know he was not the hardest at work in a studio and touring, prefering beaches in Spain. pretty women, cheese and wines than working hard on arrangements.
More of a troubadour, minstrel on the edge of prog.
He has not released any masterpieces IMHO, but .....charming albums!

Faves is -''Whatevershebringswesing''  followed by ''Confessions of dr Dream''
Vive la banane!LOL

Your take??

Yes, I'm not sure his albums could be termed masterpieces- 'flawed masterpieces' perhaps. But yes, they have a lot of charm. I love his first three albums, from the Syd Barrett-style psych pop of 'Joy Of A Toy', the more avant garde/Soft Machine flavour of 'Shooting At The Moon' but I think my fave is 'Whatevershebringswesing' as well- the most polished and accomplised of the three, imho. So that gets my vote too. Have to admit, I've not heard his others as of yet.

I've not heard all of these but "Bananamour" is my favourite of the ones I have heard. I like the song with the duck.

WHATEVERSHEBRINGSWESING, closely followed by DR DREAM.

I also have a soft spot for the excellent SWEET DECEIVER!

Voted,'Joy of a Toy'

But the first 3 are interchangable. I like all 3 equally.

Too much cod - reggae/calypso on later, post 'Confessions' albums for my liking.

The first 5 albums are a who's-who of the 'Canterbury School'.

I agree with The Wizard. The BBC Sessions are excellent.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Oh my God finally a post about our beloved Kevin Smile

If I can spend two words on this wonderful artist, I'd like to say that he is one of my fav musician of all times. Yes, after Mike Oldfield, he helped me starting my great journey on prog, and believe me my friends, all of his album are worth checking out.

Well, my fav are JOY, WHATEVER, BANANA, SHOOTING, RAINBOW, FALLING UP, yes, I know, too many for a "favorite album poll" Big%20smile

Let's say that I grew up with his albums, and now that you started a topic about him, I will take my earphone and take one or two or more spins of his works Clap

Believe me, check out also his latest albums, such as FALLING UP and STILL LIFE WITH GUITAR and RAINBOW TAKEAWAY, and you will not be disappointed Thumbs%20Up

If I might add, I suggest it to all Mike Oldfield and Soft Machine fans aroun here Big%20smile

Bananamour is perfect.
The world keeps spinning, people keep sinning
And all the rest is just bullsh*t
