At one point I thought they should be added, but while they do show progressive tendencies, if we're not going to include Metallica, then no way should they get in.

I've not heard their music, but from what I've read they fall in the Symphony X, Rhapsody style. On thay basis, I'd say aye. |

I have a couple of Iced Earth albums, id say they were similar to Blind Guardian, complex power metal with a slight prog edge on some albums (Blind Guardian are more prog IMO). But they aren't as operatic and symphonic as Nightwish who are in the archives. but I think they are prog heavy power metal! |

I defy anyone to listen to the thirty-two minute "Gettysburg" on their new Glorius Burden double album and tell me it's not Prog. Heavy Metal yes, but still prog. Symphonic yes, but still prog. |

Nope, nothing like. Happily they're far, far less horrible than Rhapsody. What is quite curious is that their guitarist (or one of their guitarists?), in his side project Demons and Wizards, played exclusively rhythm guitar. But they have had Steve DiGiorgio in the band, so they must be doing something right. Edited by goose |

I admit I haven't heard any of the newest record, but judging from nine or ten tracks I've heard from other albums (including a few epics), nothing warrants them being here. I do like them, certainly more than the vast majority of "standard" (used in the loosest possible sense) heavy metal, and if they're going in a more progressive direction then good on them. But, I feel it would be rash to add them on the basis of one progressive album (and I can't judge how progressive that is, since I haven't heard it). If they do three or four more in an progressive vein, I'd be happy to add them. I'll give Gettysburg a listen when I get a chance and see what I think. |

They have made a couple of nice more progressive tunes, but also a lot of pure heavy metal songs... Dante's Inferno is pure prog metal though imho |

Iced Earth should be included, not because they're an extremely innovative band, but because of their 2 great albums Night Of The Stormrider and Burnt Offerings. These albums are filled with great riffs and formats and these guys now how to play some of the best rhythm guitar I've ever heard (...And Justice For All). Just because they don't appear to be progressive doesn't mean we shouldn't add another interesting band to the ever-growing website. I'm sure there's already a bio out there that you could paste onto the site along with a download or two. By the way, the term progressive to me is equated to music that has either integrity, musicianship, or originality. If a band plays death metal or speed metal and they exhibit any of these qualities (in one's opinion) then we ought to post them on this site. Machine Messiah www.aegea-synergy.com |

MM, There are many "interesting bands" out there, but this is a Prog rock website. "Integrity, musicianship, and originality" do not alone mean a band is a prog band. |
