There was a great band from the 70's named BUDGIE that was mostly known
for playing hard rock/metal music, but they also had quite a few songs with prog
elements to them, "Nude disintegrating parachutist woman", "If i were Brittania
I'd waive the rules", to name a couple.
Do you think they could be considered prog?

There are some prog moments on "Never turn your back on a friend" and "In for the kill" as well.
I would consider them Prog Related.

Well, they had the extended song, fancy lyrics, & great album covers. You got me convinced. But I'm a fan.

Yes they had prog tendencies. And those cool Roger Dean covers.
If Uriah Heep,Deep Purple,Blue Oyster Cult ect... are here why not Budgie?

Budgie  .. a three piece  from the 70`s  kind of a bit similar ina way to some elemants of  Rush and some of Triumph , Rush are definitely prog that's for sure but Triumph have been a debatable inclusion  for some forum members , The way I remember Budgie is the are in the middle,   more prog than Triumph less prog than Rush for this reason they definitely should be here as prog related only though Smile

I love Budgie, Never turn your back on a Friend and In for the Kill are their best I think.
But why redefine their genre, they were and are pure hardrock.

By the way: they made a new one: You're all living in Cuckooland. And it is pleasant enough.

No, but definitely Prog Related if Blue Öyster Cult are. Budgie made more Prog than BÖC, in my opinion.

So were BÖC, Deep Purple, Rainbow and Led Zeppelin.

They explicitly said on the text on their LPs that they were NOT Prog Rock - but then, Robert Fripp hated the association too, so yes - easily as Prog-Related as, say, Wishbone Ash - Budgie were more than just a hard rock band - and this disco-flavoured link shows their versatility and ability to branch out beyond the stereotyped image of the power trio. Note the date of the performance Wink

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Well, I'd say the scope here is broad enough to include Budgie...if Zep is here, why not?

For what I've heard till today not prog, neither prog related, though some few songs are proggish, like Cat Stevens, Bee Gees, Elton John, David Bowie, Velvet Underground, Spooky Tooth, Tommy James and the Shondells, Beach Boys, Ten Years After, etc, etc, etc....
