What? only tunes from the first lineup? whaddya get lazy or something?
Not a bad one in the bunch. I do like most of the stuff from the later '70's MO lineups, too. Apocalypse in particular. This music may be one reason why I am not too impressed with prog metal. There's an intensity here that can't be matched.

Meeting of the Spirits - I always find myself coming back to this tune over and over again, ever since its release.

ah!...this is just not fair.
I'll go with vital transformation, but i could just as easily gone with half of those listed depending upon my mood or time of day... |

Birds of Fire. I only have that and Inner Mounting Flame but I can't see how anything else can be better. :)

.
1) Birds of Fire... such a power !
2) Noonward Race... the only track in history where drums is definitely the leading instrument !
3) One Word... incredible finale

AWAKENING!
The first sound is of John switching on his guitar, and then....
BAM!
That song is like a Machine Gun with a clip that lasts for its duration.
Non-Stop Frenzy!

Oh...I voted for "Sanctuary" today. But, like many of you, it could be any of the others on any given day...they are all good. And I second Slartibartfast's opinion about Apocalypse. Incredible record.
The vote for "Sanctuary" was mostly for the Moog solo in the middle...I am completely enraptured and entranced by that every single time I hear it.....!
Cheers,
MooT

Miles Beyond; that catchy keyboard intro and then the heavy guitar and violin riff. Then what is maybe the best Mclaughlin solo ever, epic.

Many of these are great, but I'll go with Noonward Race.. so fast and crazy! I miss the regular NIKI (IO) polls!

too many choices. try narrowing it down to one song from each album.
