Topic: Mostly Autumn vs. Iona Posted: April 24 2007 at 21:27 |
I've been buying up discs of both bands lately, but Iona is the band that really moves me. The marriage of progressive and celtic influences is awe inspiring and the music is so powerful. I've been moved by them so greatly that I've managed to get practically their entire discography, with the exception of their debut. Your favorite? E

I agree so much with you on this one! No need to say much more, you said it. I'm only into Iona quite recently, but love everything I heard upto now. Can't say that of Mostly Autumn!

Can't say that of Mostly Autumn! | The new Mostly Autumn leaves me cold; whereas, the new Iona is masterful. Very lush and emotive with amazing musicianship. If you don't have The Woven Cord, I highly recommend it. Absolutely stunning! E

I was fortunate to get "The River Flows" anthology. It has their first three studio discs remastered, and a fourth of previously unreleased songs and outtakes.A 60 page booklet comes with it as well.Bainbridge is an amazing guitarist.Great band.

I'm curious: do you feel Bainbridge's solo stuff to be art rock?

I voted for Iona , because I never get tired of Iona always discovering new things each time I play a CD .. for a not so complex band they sure do have lots to take in properly .. I dig that I also do enjoy Mostly Autumn but I don`t see them in the same class or beauty

Iona without a shadow of a doubt. Easily one of my favourite post-1990 bands.
"The Book of Kells", "Beyond these Shores", "Journey into the Morn", "Open Sky", and "The Circling Hour" are all great albums.
When it comes to Mostly Autumn I have only listened to "The Last Bright Light" and it didn't impress me very much. Heather Findlay has a good voice but the male singer who sings on most tracks annoys me almost as much as the unimaginative drumming.
