Has anybody ever dedicated a thread to the late Florian Fricke and his POPOL VUH?
Well, I bet it's time to! I'd start by thanking him for giving us "Hosianna Mantra", one of the most beautiful pieces in contemporary music (I'm not going to limit its beauty just to prog rock or rock in general: this is great music overall).

Popol Vuh has become one of my favorite bands...if you can call them a band!  Hosianna Mantra is one of the most beautfil albums ever made.   The soundtrack for Nosferatu is amazing and just recently i ordered Einsjager and Siebenjager (probably not correctly spelled).  Florian Fricke is a genius!

Just by listening the final minutes of the suite "In den Gärten Pharaos" I'm considering how far ahead of their time they were also for electronic music.

And this is for the mellotron-addicted ones:

Man, love all their albums til Fitzcarraldo soundtrack. As a child that grow up with a lovely father that introduce me to Werner Herzog world, Nosferatu will always  have a special place in my heart. But my favourites by now are Bruder des Schattens... and Hearz auf Glass.

My favourite electronic/krautrock band ever. It's good to see other persons sharing their love for this band. Thanks for the wonderful thread.

Ah, I forgot to mention the wonderful mix of ethnic flavours that Florian made in his music, and the superb playing of Daniel Fichelscher. What a group!

I have Affentstunde and In Der Gärten Pharaos and they're both amazing progressive electronic albums indeed. Hopefully I'll get some more albums by Florian and the boys in a week or two.

I don't own 12 albums (?, i think that's about right) for nothing!   Popol Vuh are amazing....and like Embryo, once Florian and crew venture into a more ethnic, "world music" sound, they still maintain great, quality work (e.g. "Spirit of Peace"). My favorite may be "Brueder des Schattens, Soehne des Lichts."  The first track is mesmerizing.

Check out Between if you like Popol Vuh, I have most of their albums now, minus the last two, but that'll change shortly...

In den Garten Pharaos is one of my favourite albums. Vuh is a totally mesmerizing track, I can listen to it over and over again without getting tired of it.
