I noticed that there was alot of swedish prog(g) bands that wern't included here. So here goes!

FEM SÖKER EN SKATT:

Biography:
Lars Hollmer founded "Fem Söker En Skatt" in Vendel, outside Uppsala, in 1986. Except for Hollmer, other band members were Olle Sundin (Accordion, Keyboards), Kalle Eriksson (trumpet, flute, percussion), Ulf Wallander (saxofones) och Olof Hellberg(drums). The group was a resault of Olle Sundins fascination for the material that bands like "Ramlösa Kvällar" put out in the 70's, and "Fem Söker En Skatt" continued in the same spirit with own compositions mixed with traditional material, notably from eastern europe. The Group did some wild touring during the 80's and 90's, And still plays now and then today. Their only CD, "Fem söker en Skatt" was released in 1995. It was recorded partly in the Cover-art Artist, Pelle Engman's Culture House in September 1994, at the same time as the Artist Tage Åsén's Exhibition.

ARCHIMEDES BADKAR:

Biography:
Archimedes Badkar (Archimedes Bathtub in engelska) was founded in Gröndal in 1972 by Per Tjernberg when he was in eight grade in school. In the beginning they were just a schoolband playing Zappa influenced music mixed with free jazz. But soon Jörgen Adolfsson joined the band. He was a professional musician with many years behind him. The Groups main influences was other swedish band in the same Vein, like "Träd Gräs och Stenar", "Fläsket Brinner" & "Arbete och Fritid". To record their own album was a faraway dream for the boys in the band. Their first years of playing live were chaotic. They played in folk-parks and free festivals. The crowd didn't know what to expect, since the band could have from 4 to 20 musicians, flameeaters, dancers & motorcycles on stage. In thhose times when mosty of the similar bands did their own albums and record companies, the band made a try and recorded the 20-minute single "Rumpstek" in 200 ex, which they were selling after their concerts. Later, the record company MNW took over.

In their first three albums, they play free-jazz with influences from Swedish folk, but sometimes they wandered against otther musical genres. Their Fourth album was recorded with the group "Afro 70", And it has similarities to the Kebnekaise album "Ljus mot Afrika". Between 1978 and 1980 the band often toured together with the band "Arbete och Fritid" under the name "Abarch". When Per Tjernberg left the group, Bengt Berger took over the group and renamed it to ”The Bitter Funeral Beer Band”. Jörgen and Tommy continued making music under the name "Karl Brothers", which released a CD in 1994. Per Tjernberg was also known as "Per Cussion", as he played drums in "Dag Vag".Other than that, he has also released nine solo albums.

ATLANTIC OCEAN:

Biography:
Atlantic Ocean was founded out of the ash of the band "Quints", that was the emryo to many swedish Prog & Progg acts, including "Fläsket Brinner", "Jason Fleece", "Baltik", "Handgjort" & "Tillsammans". Members of the band was Sten Bergman, Björn J:son Lindh, Jan Bandel, Johnny Mowinckel, Staffan Stenström, Göran Ahlin(Greg Fitzpatrick). Greg Fitzpatrick called himself Göran Ahlin since he didn't have a permission to be in sweden* (* = Bad Translation, but that's the best i can do. Mind you that i'm only 14)

It all started when Gres Fitzpatrick came to Sweden in 1967. He was first offered to play with "Hansson & Karlson" but he said no. Instead, he took the place of Gunnar Rosengren in the band Quints, and changed the name to "Atlantic Ocean" in the Summer of 1967. They were rehearing all autumn and winter, but didn't play live. In 1968 they played live for the first time in the pop festival Domno(?), representing Sweden. They wrote a pressrelease about themselves, which they sendt to 8 Record Companies. Of those who answered, they choosed the label CBS. Later they travelled  to England, where CBS was located. There, they recorded their sinle and bought equipment for 60.000kr ($8500)
Several of the Band members lived together in a house in the Old blocks of Stockholm. When they played live, they usually got 10kr each ($1,50). In 1969, Björn J:son Lindh and Johnny Mowinckel joins the band and they start a folk-park-tour as a support act to the english act, "Disc Jockey". Later that year, they recorded their first album, "Tranquility Bay" aswell as the soundstrack to the Roy Andersson film, "En Kärlekshistoria" together with Björn Isfält.

CBS refuses to release their album "Tranquillity Bay", partly because it sounds wierd*, but mostly because it's too political. The inner sleeve contains pictures from Vietnam. But FitzPatrick took the band to Finland, where Love Records Released the album.

While Greg went to Asia, the group split into two parts. One of them became "Fläsket Brinner", and the other one became "Janssons Fleece". Greg retunrs just in time for the first Gärdetfesten (Sort of like the Swedish version of woodstock, where many bands made their debut performance) and meets Guy Öhrström, Stig Arne "Stickan" Karlsson and Theo Greyerz. Together they form the group "Handgjort".

NOVEMBER (SWE):

Biography:
November was founded in Stockholm in 1969 by Christer Stålbrandt, Richard Rolf and Björn Inge. Their music was based on english Fuzz/Psychedelic rock, but was also very blues-influenced, like a blend of Cream, Mountain and Led Zeppelin. November was also one of the first swedish bands to sing in swedish. Most of the lyrics was written by Stålbrandt, who had his roots in the flower-power movement. The band name came from a very sucsessful gig with Fleetwood Mac, 1st november 1969. The Group were rather popular in England, even though their lyrics were swedish. On the english tours, they often translated their lyrics to english, but the crowd insisted that they should sing in swedish.

1972, shortly after their album "6:e November" was released, the group disbanded, just after having a collaboration with Jojje Wadenius. Christer Stålbrandt was after November, member of the band "Saga". In Saga, Christer got the oppertunity to play songs that he couldn't play in November. Björn Inge later joined the jazz-rock-band, "Energy", and was after that a session-musician. Richard Rolf later founded the group "Bash", and later joined "Nature". November was reunited for one night only, during the release of the CD "Live" 1994. The band "Trettioåriga Kriget" was also playing that night. That gig was recorded on Video.
All of the bands records are now avaible as CD.

Anna Koka Fem Ägg Jag är Värd i Huset:

Biography:
Anna Koka Fem Ägg, Jag Är Värd I Huset is a group from south sweden, to be more exact, Lomma and Helsingborg. The group played on the radioshow "Bandet Går" a few times and then decided to release an album on their own label (as most bands did in those days). 8000 kr ($1142) is the cost of all the 300 pressed ex. of their album. Today it's nearly impossible to get your hands on their album. You could get a CD-r copy of it on the bands website, though.

The Group was said to have alot of Joy in their playing and "experimenting and searching for a progressive sound in contrast to the commercial music". On their website, there are some samples.

Nice work Abstract! I'm impressed. Did you do these translations? Its outrageous that Archimedes Badkar is isn't re-released, and doesn't exist on CD.

I don't think of what they play mainy as: free-jazz with influences from Swedish folk, though.

I'd say its eastern inspired jazz/fusion. Similar, and just as great as many of the krautrockbands like Embryo's We Keep On and Embryo's Reise or Between and Agitation Free were about.

Kvartetten som Sprangde and Arbete & Fritid are two essential swedish Prog/folk/jazz/fusion bands missing here as well.

some good work you've done here Abstrakt Clap

ARCHIMEDES BADKAR are on the additions list, the others you mention are not listed but some mp3's would support their case for inclusion - there are some inexpensive programs available (audio cleaning lab 2005) that can make mp3's on your pc directly from your turntable.

Whenever I have some time from my band additions here in PA, I'll be happy to assist you in promoting the additions of these bands.

Here's another band: Vildkaktus: Vindarnas Vagar (71)  is the only album I've got, but the y've released three  70-72.  Its pretty great , too. If  you can imagine good Yes' harmonies and lightness ca. 70-71 combined with the typhical, swedish, folky jazz/fusion. Another bonus is that the vocals are strong, and in swedish.

Then there's electronic/space/kosmische composer Ralph Lundsten. There's more than enough prog on all the albums I have by him. Think: David Bedford/Klaus Schulze/Ash Ra Tempel/Pink Floyd/Mike Oldfield.

Svit för elektroniskt dragspel (69), Ölskog (70), Fadervår (70), Cosmic love (76), Ralph Lundsten Universe featuring the Andromeda Allstars (77), Paradissymfonin (79)

I have tree brilliant LP's With flutist (see Atlantic Ocean) Björn J-Son Lindh. Cous Cous, Sissel, Raggie. All similar to the Clivage/Embryo - easternsounding/jazzrock/fusion.

The best info is as always just in swedish, at progg.se
Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
