Some may not be aware of the interesting Pink Floyd Ambrosia connection. Ambrosia's self titled brilliant debut was mixed by Alan Parsons and their follow up album "Somewhere I've Never Travelled" was
produced and engineered by Alan. Both were grammy nominations as best recorded albums. Ambrosia got into AOR hell on their next 2 releases after Christopher North left and there wasn't a Pink Floyd man giving them guidance. Fortunately James Guthrie from Pink Floyd's "The Wall" produced and engineered Ambrosia's "Road Island" album, which is a much much better album than the previous two and a return to Art and Prog Rock. The song "Ice Age" is a Prog Rock gem. The drums on "Ice Age" are amazing they sound like War Gods.

Ambrosia was a great band indeed, even in their soft rock moments. Too bad they're not bigger on US classic rock radio.

You're right. Ambrosia's song Ice Age is a great song and would freak people out that have
only heard their soft ballads. Not many songs begin with a Sabertooth Tiger growl and end with a glacier crash!

Those first two recordings by Ambrosia just blow me away everytime I hear them!  Songs like "Nice, Nice, Very Nice"  "I Wanna Know" and "Somewhere I've Never Travelled" are all about melodic integrity while still keeping their prog roots in check.

One of the most amazing things about the first Ambrosia album is that the synthesizer that was used was built by Mike Granger, an electronics wiz friend of theirs. He said that it was a cross between a moog and an arp, and that the band named it a Grangertron. It sure got some great sounds on Mama Frog. There is a story about it on their web site http://www.ambrosiaweb.com/archive1.htm as well as a picture.

The debut album by Ambrosia is shear nirvana! A fusion of Prog Rock and Pop with Beatleish writing and production by Alan Parsons. It is innovative and original music. The song writing is brilliant, and the instruments are played with Real emotion with killer Vocal arrangements. It contains 5 Prog Rock gems! Nice Nice Very Nice, Time Waits For No One, Make Us All Aware, Mama Frog, and Drink Of Water with the thundering Pipe Organ. Just an amazing work that sounds more English than American.
