I'd replace "Apocalyptic" with "Dark", but otherwise I agree. You're welcome to create an account at my website and tag the albums of these artists accordingly ... with the exception of Apocalyptic all the tags are available.Smile

Interesting classification, it describes the artists well. But why isn't Mogwai listed under Melancholy?

but good descriptions

Yeah. But they'd fit very well under Melancholy aswell. But then again, what Post-Rock band wouldn't?

From the ones in the archives: Saxon Shore, Tortoise, Bell Orchestre, Do Make Say Think  and Yndi Halda wont fit. Wink

Seriously though, even though the majority of post-rock bands tend to be on the mellow side, not all of them are.

Like the idea, but...

Do Make Say Think
Gastr Del Sol
Tortoise
Bell Orechestre Not really jazzy at all. They do have horns, but thats it. They're more like chamber rock.

Apocolyptic

Godspeed You Black Emperor
A Silver Mount Zion
Yndi Halda (maybe) They're one of the most joyful bands in the genre. Even their album title shows that (Enjoy Eternal Bliss), but the last song on the album can be called apocalyptic

Metal
Isis
Red Sparrowes
Halifax Pier
Jesu

Melancholy
Explosions in the Sky Their two last albums are more on the happy side though.
Sigur Ros
Mono

Electronic
65daysofstatic
World's End Girlfriend
Mouse on Mars

Jazz

Do Make Say Think sound experiments, crunch rock, bits of pieces of improvised music
Gastr Del Sol this band is an epic name for "experimental", I fear to say there's nothing jazzy in its bones
Tortoise
Bell Orechestre melodic post rock

Apocolyptic

Godspeed You Black Emperor I like the term, I even used the high emotion in my reviews and in my soul-stirring (Godspeed are endlessly perfect for me,as a listener) but that's more symbolic and poetic, emotional and concerning; dark music, riot lyrics, heavy post
A Silver Mount Zion highly dramatic music, large music of it is tearing the soul into various conundrums
Yndi Halda (maybe)

Metal
Isis
Red Sparrowes
Halifax Pier
Jesu

Melancholy
Explosions in the Sky tingling bells ain't melancholy LOLWink; think ambient, ethereal post; the most mature works are emotional and collapsing
Sigur Ros with such a powerful special accent, I falter at melancholy; engraved in Sigur Ros is the high ice spirit with the linguistic aroma passion; the rest is post
Mono

Electronic
65daysofstatic these guys plays from garage to alternative, from scratch to minimal programmed sound, not electronic, maybe gearing
World's End Girlfriend
Mouse on Mars
I would add God Is An Astronaut; the debut is electronica, the rest lies in the plastic post

the subgenres are interesting, they don't bias the "experimental" character, nor the "post" dominant attitude. Smile
