Discordia is a Finnish band founded in 2001, they've released one cd-ep (On a Thin Rope, 2005) and one full length album (Utopia Perfection, 2007). Here's a self made translation of a little bio on their website: "We are Discordia, a polyrock band from Helsinki. Things we hold important are good diverse compositions reflecting the band members' personalities and thoughts, and their high quality arrangements and energetic performance. Many people file us under Progressive." http://www.myspace.com/discordiafin Here's their Myspace site with three songs from the new album, and here http://www.discordiamusic.com/Songs/OnAThinRope-FINAL.mp3 you can download the title track from their debut ep. And here's the actual homesite: http://www.discordiamusic.com (there's a little section in English).

Any thoughts on this? Smile

Hi there, and thanks, Keppa4v, for adding a new topic for Discordia! Luckily the band will be added in the archives. Smile

"Utopia Perfection" has been met with great enthusiasm, reviews giving it from 4 to 5 stars everywhere. One of the biggest Finnish music magazines, Rumba, claimed Discordia "A new band to the top of Finnish progressive rock."

People outside Finland can order the album from

http://www.recordoffice.net
http://www.jukeboxshop.net

The CD will appear very soon on

http://www.cdbaby.com

In addition to "On A Thin Rope", a review of "Utopia Perfection" in English will be soon published on

http://www.gepr.net

I don't have the time right now to listen to it, but I will try to do it when time permits.
However, which genre in the archives would you place Discordia? I am asking this so the right Team can be told of this.

Discordia has been described as 'progressive rock' and 'art rock'. The music resembles somewhat that of Gentle Giant, Camel, Renaissance, Van Der Graaf Generator and Marillion. Probably 'Art Rock' would suit best. :)

I should say that operating on rigorous notes and infos, plus ultimately on those myspace samples, plus on other available music is enough for the Team's admission and appreciation. Reviewing comes later. WinkSmile

But, if you really want, a mutual contact can be made with the Band Submission team and address.

Discordia - polyrock from Finland

Discordia was founded in 2001. After several changes in personnel the current line-up was formed in early 2006. The two remaining founding members Antti Tolkki (guitar) and Petri Sallinen (bass) consider the current line-up as the tightest and most innovative in the band history. The new members Otto Mäkelä (drums), Liisa Lipas (keyboards, Violin, Santur) and Tero Väänänen (vocals, Bass Clarinet) & Riikka Hänninen (vocals, Tin Whistle) share the original idea of combining ambitious yet enjoyable musical elements with forceful performance. Discordia is best described as Progressive Rock or Art Rock. The music somewhat resembles bands like Camel, Gentle Giant, Marillion, Renaissance, Queen and Van Der Graaf Generator.

The term 'polyrock' refers to the bands love for polyrhythmics and polyphony: between independent melodic lines, musical elements, and even different musical styles. Discordia plays many kinds of rock, along with influences from classical and modern concert music, not to forget about folk, traditional and world music. Despite the variety of musical elements, the band aims at coherency.

'Utopia Perfection' (2007) is Discordia's first long play album, and it has been reviewed and accepted very positively by a wide range of listeners. 'On A Thin Rope' (2005) is a shorter EP, which was also met with enthusiasm.

My pleasure Smile Sorry I forgot to mention the sub-genre, I would have gone for art rock too. I don't know if you already recognised me by the avatar, but you might know me as Pedro on one other message board Wink

Good news Fäänä, Discordia is on a good solid path to be added to Art Rock. Big%20smile

We'll use the short discography you've presented, it's short and good enough, plus the image linked there too, since it's the most "complete" one (of the band) we've found.

Clap

Guess I can put a correction in this topic, so there's no need to open a new one elsewhere. The line up for On a Thin Rope goes like this:

Tero Väänänen / vocals
Ahmed Ahonen / keyboards
Antti Tolkki / guitars
Petri Sallinen / bass
Mikko Neuvonen / drums

Listening to the samples on MySpace.  Not bad guys and girls!

Keep up the good work.

On further listens, it's even better now!  I may have to get the album. Clap

Thanks, Geck0! Utopia Perfection is now available at http://cdbaby.com/cd/discordia , so go for it! :)

I'm actually considering translating our website to English 'cause there is much more prog listeners abroad and geographical distance is not as much an issue as it was before.
