Is anyone here familar with the band Psyopus?  I'm curious to hear your thoughts about them.  I have a very strong feeling they are not favored around here in all honesty.

I suggest the songs 'Kill Us" , "Imogen's Puzzle pt. 2" or "Siobhan's Song".  Please don't make a judgement from songs on their myspace if you lcheck them out.

Mentioning what style they play could be helpful...

Thumbs%20Up

A very excellent Avant/math-metal band!  I'd have to check in with the prog-metal team about including them here (i'd say they deserve it...)

I'm going to see them open for Melt-Banana in a couple weeks Cool

PsyOpus have been cleared for addition ... we only need a biography and complete discography with track lists and musicians per album to add them.

REALLY!?  I will do that later today.

Psyopus guitarist Christ Arp recently lost his ibanez sponsership.  After hearing the new album they dropped chris arp because they didn't want kids mimicking his wammy bar usage. They were afraid guitar players would break their guitars and cost them alot of money in warranty costs.

That's a big compilment in my opinion

Send a PM to either Mike, Jody or myself.
The bio should be in your own words, and give us your name you want at the end of the bio to give you credit.
Also, you can then add the albums, but let's focus on the bio first.

Their debut is on eMusic, and both their albums are on Amazon for a good price.

From what I've heard, I greatly prefer Hella. Hella just seems more creative--and they don't have that annoying generic screamer. The Eye is the only screamer that I can really tolerate because he's more inventive, but even he gets tiresome fairly quickly.

I see Hella and Psyopus on 2 different spectrums...Hella coming from Alternative and Indie Rock roots and Psyopus coming from Metal.

Do you prefer Behold ...The Arctopus over Psyopus?  I think that's a better comparison and you might like Behold ..The Arctopus because of their vocallessness.

That's true, but Hella is the only thing close to Psyopus that I have listened to.

I like them better, but it still seems to me to be more guitar technical w**king. From what I've heard, it seems as if they're just playing scales and stuff as fast as humanly possible. Hella doesn't seem to do that (and if they are, the amazing drummer makes it appear as if they are not :P ).

I've heard of them. They're a bit harder to get into than what I though, plus I haven't listened to the album I have from the very oftenly. I remember discovering them by reading why he lost his guitar sponsorship. I'm still curious how he does it.

PsyOpus is too relentless and monotonous for me. I've heard the Ideas of Reference album, which is my reference for that statement. I don't knw any other works of theirs.

Their new album "Our Puzzling Encounters Consisered" is far more dymanic and progressive than "Ideas of Reference".

I just listened to their stuff on Myspace.  Pretty awesome.  A lot better than I was expecting it to be.

Losing his sponsorship because of his aggressive playing style??? Yes, that is quite a compliment!!!  If it's true. Wink

Too funny!  I mean, how many people listen to Psyopus anyway?  And out of those people, how many decided to purchase an Ibanez after hearing him play?  He is amazing, but it's not like he's some high profile and widely influential player. LOL.

Great band. Clap
