Hi
 
Why is there so few reports on the Genesis shows. No I will not become a premium Genesis member to find out. Was just hoping all the Genesis fans outthere would have enlightened us somewhat. Forget era's!!! Any feedback please.

Hi, I was on the yesterdays concert in Katowice.
My general impression is very positive, even thought they didn't play a lot of prog rock stuff - there were more songs like Land Of Confusion, I Can't Dance etc. But sill I think that the performance of the whole band was excellent. And Phil Collins proved to be not only a great vocalist, but also a very nice comedian and showman. In spite of his age, he's still in great form. They also showed great musical skills - Collins with his solo on drums, Rutherford in the solo on Firth of Fifth, Banks eg. in organ solo of the same song.
Haven't ever seen such a pompous show, too. Some animations were absolutely brilliant, IMO the best one was in Home By The Sea. It really brought a new light on this song with this horrifying figure from the famous Munch's picture "The Scream" - an excellent idea to display it during this song.

Apart from that, in this concert there was something special, precisely - the weather. It was so awful that the first words of Phil Collins were: "f**king rain"(he used the polish word for rain, of course ). But the rain and the terrible storm instead of spoiling the concert, added a lot of magic to it's atmosphere. It really didn't bother so much that everyone was soaked to the skin. And something unusual happened wihin the last second of Land Of Confusion. - an enourmous lightning tore the whole sky as if it was planned by organizers.

And one more thing - it seemede that the band put a lot of effort in the concert and that they reall enjoyed the show, too, and that's not only my personal opinion.

So generally it was worth going to this concert, and it was the best I've ever seen (apart from VDGG, maybe). The only disadvantage is the repertoire, alhough you can't have everything.

PS. Sorry for all language mistakes and that post is so chaotic and that I am blabbing so much, but I tend to be a hell of a chatterbox.

IMO both "eras" of Genesis are full of valuable music. Of course, the 70s are better than 80s and 90s, but Genesis were for me gods both as prog-rockers and pop-rockers. I don't know wh you guys think of all this post Hackett stuff like rubbish...

whoa, can't believe rutherford attempted playing that
progressive rock and rural tranquility don't match. true or false?

Thanks for that review Harold.

I was starting to wonder how that tour was going. I didn't buy a ticket. They were far too expensive for the UK shows, and as I suspected they are not playing much prog stuff. I would pay money to see Genesis doing predominantly post Duke material, but not £170 for a cheap seat.

170 quid for a CHEAP seat? and to think that i complained about 80 euros
for the local show here in hamburg. just what are the promoters thinking?

just buy the live DVD that is bound to be released, it will probably amount
to almost the same thing...

PS: from what i had heard, the show was stunning!

I've seen some of the performances that were put on YouTube- they sound great, imho. I'm seeing the Dusseldorf gig on 27th June in a UK cinema, and will give my thoughts.
 
The setlist is very good, imho, there are only a few turkeys here (Invisible Touch and I Can't Dance, I'm looking at you)- on another board though some were grumbling (in all seriousness) about them not playing 'Get 'Em Out By Friday' or 'Can Utility And The Coastliners'. There's just no pleasing some people...

Slaski Stadium  - Katowice, Poland 21/06/07

The rain was falling from the sky from the time we arrived at the venue, but we had waited 15 years and 7 months for this event. We travelled 1200 miles from the UK and nothing but nothing was going to spoil it.
 
We had VIP tickets so was better off than those fans who had no choice but to stand in  the rain and get wet, although the views we had was a blanket of colours from umbrellas and plastic rain covers.
 
The band came on stage around 8.30pm although someone might correct me on this time I had no time piece.
 
From start to the very end the sound quality, the lighting, the rear screen effects, and even the lightning all added to the varied mixture of tracks that Genesis covered.
 
Phil Collins is and has always been a perfectionist, and this was obvious, the poor guy was dripping wet but still he gave us a performance to remember.
 
Anyone who is yet to see this tour is in for a real treat.

I'm going to catch them this autumn either in Boston or Baltimore, depending if I'm at school or home. I'm really looking forward to this, I enjoy all types of good music, especially anything with Tony Banks!

I really dont see why you would want to see them without Gabriel, I mean they have some great songs afte PG, but the shows are probably nothing to compare. My dad saw them though in 80', so I'll ask him and report here.

At Twickenham Rugby Ground, the most expensive tickets were around £500 when they went on sale. This was for the beautiful peoples zone at the front. The rest of the plebs were expected to pay between £170 and £300 for a ticket. Cheaper tickets may have become available from some agencies, but I couldn't find them, and I think it sold out pretty quick.

That set list looks about right from the Slaski (Poland ) gig although I was a little pickled from the Vodka!
