Definitely Il Volo for me! Adore both their 's/t' & 'Essere o Non Essere'
Formula 3 never really hit the spot. |

BIG fan of Bob Callero and like the Il Volo albums... but to be honest...I enjoy Formula 3's albums more. and Radius was right with Bambi as the best prog guitarist to come out that prog era.

I had both Dies Irae and Formula 3 by the band, are there any others worth getting? |

I'd recommend Sognando E Risongnando first.. more 'traditional' of a prog album not knowing your tastes exactly. La Grande Casa is more accoustic driven with such gorgeous melodies. Some people don't really go for that stuff. |

I prefer Il Volo, their two albums are originally,
but feel the Formula Tre's influence for the presence of two F3 musicians |

The first two Formula 3 albums are very good Psychedelic/ Hard Rock album. "Sognando..." and "La Grande Casa" are Prog (more "Sognando..."). The 90's production are POP with Prog moments and in the successive years the Formula 3 it became official tribute band of Lucio Battisti, and produced good tribute album. But if you loved "Sognando E Risognando" and "La Grande Casa" you will note that Il Volo is the natural prosecution of "La Grande Casa" style!!! |

Well... Nothing of special... The Prog is almost totally absent... In any case honests are: FORMULA 3King Kong(Studio Album, 1991)for the presence of the new version of "Dies Irae". FORMULA 3La Casa Dell'imperatore(Studio Album, 1994)Also if a POP album... Is good! FORMULA 3Il Nostro Caro... Lucio(Studio Album, 2004)Only a tribute album... But with very good moments. Guys, I gave 'Sognando E Risognando' a sample listen last night. Not sure if I'm going to be able to get into this one [at times I tend not to digest Hard rock orientated albums well], though I did prefer the softer acoustic sections so 'La Grande Casa' could be the catch.

I think you'll love it... if you want an honest accessment (not from us damn fanboys hahhaha) ask David (Atavachron) I know he recently got a copy of La Grande Casa. |

This one is very difficult, Mandy. How to choose?
I'd say both are at the same level, even if Formula Tre are way more famous in Italy, due to the great collaboration with Lucio Battisti.

Difficult indeed, third option seems to be the best since i really enjoy both bands.
I have a special love for Sognando e Risognando because it was one of the first RPI albums i ever listened (and loved)

Technically speaking, Il Volo is amazing; but when I listen to one of their album I always get the impression they use the same chord progressions for all the tracks - and they end up being so boooooooooring... Formula 3 had got real songs (ok, they didn't write them by themselves...) and finally I cannot stand Lavezzi's or Radius' voices at all (Di Cicco's teenage register works much better)

Well... I don't know. But is true: Two similar bands... And, for me, Il Volo is the continuation of Formula 3!!! |
