It's been confirmed- the Mars Volta will be releasing their next album 27 August 2007. It's called "The Bedlam in Goliath".

Great news! I'm always amazed at how fast they put out quality albums.. though, I have a feeling that the new one won't be as good, if Amputechture was any kind of indication on the direction they're taking in terms of quality. I'm definitely getting it either way though

In a June 28th, 2007 Rolling Stone article Rodriguez-Lopez stated that they have come up with fifteen minute songs and "literally two minute songs"

That definitely sounds interesting... I wonder what their two-minute songs will be like though: great music packed into a short period of time, or two minutes of noodling/sound effects? I guess we'll find out inAugust.

I happened to accidently come across this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a4/BedlaminGoliathCover.jpg

Though honestly I make no claim this will be the cover. I can't. Interesting artwork nevertheless?

Hopefully it will be. It's 1000X better than the Amputechture cover.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I don't know if it will be the official one, though.

Yeah, I really hated the Amputechture cover, compared to their other studio outputs. Though If they made the thing I posted the cover, it would be my favorite.

I kinda liked it.   When I first saw it I thought it was very odd,   but then I realized that most (good)prog cover art is.

In this months Classic Rock magazine there is an article about album cover art. In that there is a copy of the rejected art that StormThorgerson did for Amputechture. I prefer that!

You know what else is awesome?  This album and the the TMV soundtrack for "La Noche de Bufalo" (not Omar's new solo album "No se Dice Bison..." come out within 10 days of each other.

"Rodriguez-Lopez has also composed the score to the upcoming film El Búfalo de la Noche, the new film from Guillermo Arriaga and Jorge Hernandez Aldana. It has been confirmed that The Mars Volta as a whole performed the score. The release date and track info for this recording have yet to be announced, although the movie is scheduled for release on August 17, 2007."

from the wiki link on TMV.  Okay, so maybe not the OST yet, but how long has anyone had to wait before buying a movie soundtrack?  Especially because TMV is so popular?

I heard one of them live in April. At least I believe I did. It was a new song, and it was short. So I assume that's one of the songs they're referring too. It was loaded with energy, and I thought it sounded great.

I knew they were planning a new album this year, but wow, not even one year after Amputecture! This is great news!

Can't wait for this. Good to see a modern band being as prolific as 70s bands were (while maintaining their quality).

You most likely heard Idle Tooth which may or may not be renamed to Wax Simulcra...all this according to Wikipedia...and I thought the song was alright, nothing too special.  Looking forward to the new one though...I've been told by aha, 'inside sources' it's different this time.

I'm really looking forward to all of this... It's unlikely that that above artwork will be used, but I'm looking forward to seeing what they use... I hope they use Storm Thorgerson again...
