On balance, I can probably sit through more Nice than ELP, but it's close - I have to admit that the vocals on ELP are better though.
What?

We had a similar poll last week if i recall properly!!!Wink

ELP of course as Lake and PALMER were well way more talented musicians than the 2 Emerson's servicemen from the NICE.

Ilike ''the cry of Eugene'' , But TARKUS is one definitive moment of prog history!

oh man.... that simply is no contest at all.  Palmer and Lake were heads and shoulders above Jackson and ....or whoever it was...oh yeah Davidson.  No wonder they got left at the alter several times.  Being a second division musician works in cock rock.. not in prog.

out of curiousity....who?

Greatest rock keyboardist bar none...
One of the greatest prog drummers of all...
and a bassist overshadowed by them but skilled enough to complement those two... which is no mean feat. Prog groups are notoriously unforgiving of musicians whose skill level isn't up to snuff.

I really love this bands, of course, ELP has a bigger history, and much better albums, and is after Floyd, my favourite band, so, thats my choice

The Nice were a very important part of the early development of progressive rock.in fact more so than ELP. However they were hampered by inferior equipment and recording studios. ELP had state of the art equipment and poly moogs.Hard to make a comparison but without The Nice there would have been no ELP. Musically both bands werre superb although ELP had more tn their locker so to speak with Greg Lake offering better vocals and lead guitar while Carl Palmer was an absolute 'monster' behind the kit, dwarfing Brian Davidson who was a very decent but unremarkable rock drummmer. That said Davison and Jackson were a better 'unit' than Lake and Palmer who tended to do theri own thing. Its all taste of course.ELP for me.

richard is right, the Nice were more than important.. absolutely crucial. ELP were magnificent though, and made music that was superior and usually more pleasing. The more I listen to Greg Lake the more impressed I am not just at his musicianship and voice, but his technical skills on bass. And, lest we forget, his production of their records.
