this just in on insideout.de

“InsideOut Music have announced that Saga are back in the studio with Michael Sadler ....

Legendary Canadian band, SAGA, enters Sound Image studio in Los Angeles this week to begin work on their 19th studio album, currently titled "10,000 Days." After 30 years of fronting the band, vocalist Michael Sadler has decided this will be his last chapter with SAGA.

"As I think about it," Michael explains, "I’ve spent more than half of my life focused on my career. Whether traveling or in the studio, I simply haven’t spent a great deal of time at home, wherever that may have been at the time, over the last 30 years!" "I suppose what I’m trying to say is, I’ve decided to shift my focus to what now matters most to me and something that has eluded me since we began the band…that something is my family!"

Forming in 1977, SAGA was launched into rock stardom in 1983 when MTV started spinning the singles to their fourth album, World's Apart. "On the Loose" proved to be their breakthrough in America and peaked at #26 on the Billboard Charts in March of 1983. "Wind Him Up" became the second single and peaking at #64 on Billboard the following month. The band has been touring and releasing albums ever since.

Look for SAGA's "10,000 Days" in stores in October 2007."

TRUST did impress me to some extent and i am looking forward to this
one. let's see mike off in style!

This will definitely be bittersweet. I thought they really hit a new stride with Network and Trust.

Sorry to see Michael go; however, I completely understand.

Possibly. I heard some whining because Marillion's Somewhere Else was too similar to Kansas' Somewhere To Elsewhere and that it lacked imagination. Sort of makes me wonder if they thought Pink Floyd were lacking originality when they came up with The Wall because it was identical to Kansas' "The Wall".

I, for one, can't wait for the new Saga.

now that you mention it ... i never associated the two by their title. totally
forgot about the KANSAS one as i never liked it and sold the CD rather
quickly. i'm not keen at all on the new marillion CD either (read my review)
and they are probably my favourite band ever. we should continue this
via PM, othewise we'll get told off by the admins

anyway, TRUST had some of the best recent SAGA-material ever and i was
pleasantly surprised. i do look forward to the new one and i expect them
to pull all stops. and my concert tix for oct30th are booked!

As a huge Saga fan, I cannot wait for this new album, but am more than saddened to see Michael leave the band.  Especially given the magnificent streak of albums ever since House of Cards up to Trust.

I thought this album was supposed to be kept secret, but since the cat is out of the bag, I was lucky enough to be in the studio with the band a few days ago while they are working on the album, and the stuff I heard was very cool thus far. As to the title "10,000 days", I don't know if that is the final title, but I heard Michael say something about that phrase earlier this year with regard to the tour because 30 years works out to about 10,000 days and it is their 30th anniversary.

Their coda album "10,000 Days" ,was like their early work & renaissance "Full Circle" & up period was nothing short of total class & genious .The only slightly weak album being "Marathon" & that certainly had it's high points .Anything that comes after Michael's departure will be exploratory & likely heavy in the Euro vein as Michael's favourite album apparently was "Behaviour" which although quite good was also quite commercial .It'll be interesting to see Ian Crichton who I'm convinced is a hard rocker @ heart & Jim(Darryl) Gilmour unleashed on a new Saga project probably w/more instumentals than before will churn out a fairly heavy post Michael album .All this opinion is just conjecture - but I'll also be willing to bet a shiny new dime that Michael will return to the fold after a time of inactivity & wanting those German audiences back in the palm of his hand - right where they belong !Smile

Michael has had pretty much no input on the music writing the past few albums, so any change in direction won't be because of him per se, but the band making a decision to do something else.  If you have Gilmours solo album 'Great Escape', there is some really aggressive keyboard stuff on there, or Ians solo albums.  I do know the band has looked at many vocalists now and they have some very promising candidates.

As to Michael returning, don't hold your breath.  His wife just had a baby a few weeks ago and I know he's going to be focused on that for a while.  However, I am lucky enough to have Michael as the vocalist for my own music project that is nearing completion :)
