I'm very curious about this new album from our Italian friends:  I came across this clip on YouTube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdBth68lWMM and wanted to know if this is a good representation of the album (sounds a lot like the classic era, the first two Concerto Grosso's).  I would also be grateful if anyone could suggest were to find it besides Btf (they're a tad expensive for me).

Here's a hand for the New Trolls for still making music after all these years ClapClapClap

Any remarks/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I haven't got my hands on it yet... but check the reviews from Mandy and Andrea C.  It's worthy of the earlier albums by their accounts.

Yes, I've read the reviewsThumbs%20Up and it's near the top of my wishlist, so now I've just got to find it...hopefully Greg Walker will have it soon or I'll just get it from btf.

Well from YouTube you can download the intro of the strong album that is in a very similar vein of Concerto Grosso 1.

I wouldn't say that the whole album is based on that kind of aggressiveness. in fact it alternates strong moments as the one above within more romantic and soft (really excellent btw). Every track is played in a peculiar tempo: ballata, cadenza, ostinato, larghetto, brioso, andante, rondò, adagio ...

The couple of songs "The Season Of Hope" and "Simply Angels" are the best from this album (preludio + suite) that is on the top from Italy this year!Clap

Highly recommended. Unfortunately the price is a little expensive also for us (I've bought it for 17 euros).

Yes, this third "Concerto Grosso" is a very good album in the vein of "Concerto Grosso Per I New Trolls" but in the Rock parts is in a very good 70's Italian Heavy Prog. For me is a perfect album like New Trolls return. But an other album I I should wait for to confirm how much wrote.  Because the bang was fired. Then the negative thing is that Nico doesn't touch one guitar!!! And that with the drummer of the Latte E Miele (Alfio Vitanza) left every reference to you are. Reading between the lines it is incredible like what today we call Prog Metal the New Trolls had it always played when played Prog!!!

I managed to track down some samples at www.disc.rai.it; I'd have to agree with Andrea and Mandrakeroot about the 'aggressive vs. soft' tendencies here, and it sounds very good to me (I was sold after hearing the harpsichord and heavy violin/guitar parts).  I just realized that the clip posted earlier from youtube sounds very much like the intro to La Carrozza di Hans...good enough for me: it's going at the top of my "to buy" list with Gan Eden and Ubi Maior...and many others

I hope to see more reviews and comments about this new album. Honestly, I thought that Concerto Grosso III would have appealed more to progheads.

It's so sad, jimmy, prices are often too much expensive...!Angry

I agree completely...I really wish to see more reviews for these type of albums, but I don't think it will change soon.  I'm sure the home page will be flooded with Who reviews in addition to the same old customers (don't get me wrong though I do believe they should be here).  But I do thoroughly enjoy reading high quality reviews from yourself, Mandrakeroot, micky, erik neuteboom,et al.

hahahha.... here's one for you my friend in spirit of our newest addition to the Archives...

Well I'm gonna raise a fuss
And I'm gonna raise a holler
About workin' all summer
Just tryin' to earn a dollar
Well, I went to my boss
Who governs me
He said, "No, dice, bud
You gotta work late"

Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Well, my mom and papa told me
Now you better earn some money
If one of you is gonna go
Ridin' next Sunday
Well, I didn't go to work
I told my boss I was sick
He said, "You can't use the car
'Cause you didn't work a lick"

Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Gonna save two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
Gonna take my problem
To the United Nations
Well, I went to my congressman
He sent me back a note
It said, "I''d like to help you, hon
But you're too young to vote"

Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Now there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Now there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

feeling like a 5 star review for Live at Leeds now hahhahaha

^^ I'm probably too hard on Rush for that, the whole Feedback EP; it wasn't particularly strong but there is some good playing on there.  As far as The Who's version vs. Rush's, I think Daltry is much more suited for the vocal than Geddy...it sort of needs that thick brit-blues feel.

Concerto Grosso 3 is one of the 2007 i am more interested to listen, they played a bit parts of it in their concert here in México and was pretty cool reminding me of No. 1, hope i can get it this year.!!
