i have two of his recordings with trumpetist CLIFFORD BROWN. Great!

He is the one who make notice drums was as important an instrument-and fun- as the traditional jazz ones such as horns or piano.

Before him, a drummer was just this unknown guy in the back of the stage with a -small-paycheck- whose role was just helping the blowers or pianist to showcase their talents by creating a beat with his also unknown partner, the contrabassist.
Roach was the first ''star'' drummer, !  Thanks,MRThumbs%20Up

I was about to make that post, but you got there first Dick.

It's sad - but at least Max leaves behind a good memory and reached the very respectable age of 83.

Sad news indeed. Max is one of my main influences on drumming.

See you later, master.

Mr. Roach open to me the real jazz world. I have wonderful pieces of music created by this master in my cd favourites collection. His music (Brown era, in the sixties and seventies) is wonderfully indescribable. His "Historic Concert" with Cecil Taylor and 'Sweet Mao" with Archie Shepp are abstract music in its purest form, guiding us to a new dimension in the music universe.

Thanks for all your music, Mr. Roach. One of the greatest losses of few ARTISTS the twentith century.
Bach, Ma, Bros, Déia, Dante.
