Monkey3: 39 Laps.
Very interesting instrumental mix between  prog rock/metal,  psychedelic,  stoner and post-rock.

Monkey3 started during the year 2001 as a musicians' community dedicated to jam-sessions. The overall intonations of this improvisations, due to everybody's influences, was in a stoner-rock vibe. Attracted by this experience, the band was finally formed as a quartet, Picasso - Bass, Walter - Drums, Boris - Guitar and Mister M. - Sampler & Keys, and decided to create its own musical world.

"Monkey3", the first album of the band, was released in march 2003. Following this production, Monkey3 inked a deal with the Belgian label Buzzville Records. The record has been re-released in a bigger way in june 2004.

To promote their music, during the years 2004 and 2005, Monkey3 toured in Belgium, Netherlands, U.K, France, Switzerland and Germany playing with acts such as Alabama Thunderpussy, Mono, Honcho, Colour Haze, Los Natas, Dozer, Hypnos 69, Houston swing engine, Sparzanza.

Monkey3 started to built a good "live" reputation thanks to their particular sonic universe embellished by visual projections on the bass drum and the quality of   their "wall of sound".

The second Monkey3's album is under construction. The band will start the recording process during april 2006 and the record will be out during the month of September. In between this two dates Monkey3 will appear on a split E.P with the stoner-rock act Ufomammut.

With the new tunes and with the acquired experience, Monkey3 will set up a more bewitched and unique show in order to follow what has been described as the "ultimate psycostoner experience ".

Line-up:
Picasso: 4 strings
Walter: Drums&Percussions
Boris: 6 strings and Noise
Mister M.: Keys and Soundscapes

They have already been suggested to the Prog Metal Team and are on our voting chart.

I think they might make more sense in Space/Psychedelic ... they have some metal influences, but not throughout the album (haven't heard first hand, but I've read several reviews in print magazines).

I have heard the album and I agree with you Mike. They just aren't metal enough, but would fit well in Space/Psych.

I wouldn't mind seeing them in the psych/ space genre. I remember suggesting them to the Prog Metal team simply because the list of influences was closer to prog metal than space rock. Their music is preety much in the middle (maybe more one than the other) so I won't object.
