The Watch - "Primitive" Tour 07 - EU

Dear friends and lovers of Genesis music,

 

Great year of changes for The Watch, the Genesis music outliners who tremendously delineates new Gabriel era albums with an incredible renewed inspiration.

 

Fact is that their recent album "Primitive" won't be played with the usual lineup known since 5 years with the slight personnel changes.

 

Those few who could witness their Scnadinavian gigs this very beginning of summer and the little appearence at the Jethro Tull / Fish daytime of the Loreley summer Night of the Progs could notice the new sound of the band.

 

The only remaining former member, singer and composer of the band Simone Rossetti (along with keyboarder Fabio Mancini) explains the reasons of this change with following thread on the official website of the band:

 

 “ Hi everybody, this is Simone Rossetti. The last six months have been a very hard and challenging period for us - both the band and staff. April saw the release of Primitive and we immediately experienced a very positive feedback from the fans and critics. We were a bit surprised to see Primitive competing well with known bands that released their album during the same period.

Back in January, before the release, some members of the band decided to quit and start their own projects. We all wish Roberto, Marco and Ettore good luck. We are still good friends, but from now on The Watch will have a different line up.

Simone Stucchi and I decided to look for artists who can push and give a step forward to our music especially during the live acts. We were involved in a big search to find musicians who could fit perfectly into our music. Well, I have to admit that we would have never imagined to be so lucky to find musicians that we've always dreamed about!!

I'm talking about Cristiano Roversi, on Chapman Grand Stick, 12 strings guitar and bass pedals. He doesn't need any introduction since he is in the prog/rock scene some years before The Watch. He has worked both live and in the studio, with many of the greatest prog musicians around the King Crimson and Genesis areas, such as John Wetton (live on some King Crimson theme shows and part of the John Wetton band), Antony Phillips (with whom some studio recordings are in progress) and John Hackett. I know him since a couple of years and I was thrilled when he told me he would be happy to join The Watch. After listening to his way of playing our songs I thought how much you all would have been delighted.

Then, after some careful auditions, we came to this incredible guy called Marco Fabbri on drums and percussions. He also has a great experience within the prog scene and he has always been a big supporter of The Watch music. While auditioning, I was really impressed by his energy and preciseness, along with his playing style. We heard songs like Shining bald Heads, Goddess or Berlin 1936 literally flying under his drumming. I was told (and I soon discovered that was absolutely true): "he's a great fellow and although he is conscious to be one of the best drummers in the prog scene, he's a very humble and easy going guy". Just in the right The Watch style.

To top it all, one of the biggest surprises of my life arrived. Mr. Giorgio Gabriel was introduced to me by a common friend who heard him for the first time playing some Genesis stuff as well as some jazz music. We met him at a concert while he was playing some typical Naples style music in a big band. I instantly thought: "oh my god, I'm seeing this Gabriel surnamed, Hackett styled, jazz man playing a virtuous tarantella in a big band ??". After this speach I was so curious about Mr. Gabriel that I immediately ask to meet him. When he played the solo of Shining for the first time, with all his passion, I sweated and I had to sit down: I understood I found a treasure. He plays electric guitar, 12 strings and acoustic.
But I shall stop now with this little intro of the new line-up: more than any word spoken, just come to The Watch shows and listen.  ..... I hope to see you all shortly! ”

 

Another chance for the new line-up is beeing able to support TMB for not less than 6 EU gigs after a talk i had with Serge Morrissette the actual leader of the canadian Genesis cover band officialy supported by Genesis themselves.

Together with the old The Watch line-up, we had two marvelous nights at Paris' Olympia were we supported TMB for their wonderfull Foxtrot and the Selling shows.

So talks were going round we join them for some EU Black Selling Shows

Managing help of The Watch

Hi Ziggy,

 

Yes, i've read your album reviews on Progarchives here, good appreciation and taste!

BtW, the TMB support is absolutely not the same as a full gig as at the Spirit the day later.

 

I mean, TW plays with smaller "spoons" durring a support, but if you show up at the Spirit, you'll discover the third mutation of Simone"s project in full blown performance.

And Primitive's songs have another colours with the current line-up - not to miss Cristiano Roversis' adds of atmospheres and soundcapes on his grand chapman stick brings a more personal touch in the band's sound it make it more "watchous" than "foxtrottous".....

 

 

I saw you'll be in Duisburg at the Nursery Cryme event.

Maybe we could have a pint together there?
