in order of preference and why ....
1. Kansas (based only on what they did in the 70's)
2. Genesis (however only with Gabriel)
3. Rush (based on their mid period)
4. Jethro Tull (based on the classic years)
5. Yes (based on the classic years)
6. Shadow Gallery (from their self titled CD to Tyranny yet strangely not their latest "successful" studio CD Room V which I found a little disappointing)
7. King Crimson (based on early 70's)
8. The Flower Kings (everything up to Space Revolver after that I go I bit shy on them)
9. Dream Theater (for their Kevin Moore years)
10. "Fish"  Marillion (not for Hogarth Marillion though, it is not my thing as a whole but does have moments of brilliance I'll admit )

They are leading figures of the emo lifestyle, but their music is no longer emo.  The Black Parade is arena rock, it doesn't even touch emo.

They have never been Emo. Emo was dead before MCR existed.

True, except for the Emo bit. Those bands are not Emo.

Emo was an underground music style, existing from the mid 80's to approximately the mid 90's. It's dead now, and the bands being called Emo today are Alternative Rock and Pop-Punk bands, sometimes with a bit of Post-Hardcore or Metalcore thrown in.
