CC is derivitive of Genesis. Is that bad? Only if you are trying to cash in by being a cover band and calling it original music. The same could be said for Fish era Marillion. Derek Dick sounded VERY similar to Peter Gabriel. Echolyn sounds like Gentle Giant. RPWL sounds like Pink Floyd. What is the difference between "influence" and "plagiarism?" |

Your parents gave you an education : it is influence but you build your own personality later. About plagiarism, there is an image gave by the great psychanalyst Eric Bern. Two young chickens are on the side of the road. Their parents said "don't cross it is dangerous and there are no worms on the other side". The first chicken who is curious cross the road and find a lot of worms... and a new life. The second chicken don't cross the road like his parents, grand parents... A little elliptical, no ?

I know the difference, my question was rhetorical in nature. Some "artists" wear their influnces on their sleeves and frequently border on plagiarism. I sometimes wonder why there aren't more lawsuits from some direct rip-offs. |
