French composer of "chamber music", quite experimental. Getting into his music recently. Anyone knows him, to share opinions?

My late mom was very much into classical music, and once bought the Turangalila Symphony out of curiosity. We listened to it, and actually liked it quite a lot - in many ways, it's quite close to some of the music listed on this site. However, it was a long time ago, and I am afraid the CD was given to someone else after her death.

^ Have you listened to Arvo Part? He composed also classical music, with minimalistic and experimental touches. If you like classical music (in general terms), you won't be dissapointed with Arvo Part..... but Messiaen is a bit different.... I dunno....... check wikipedia for what he exactly plays There are weird articles about his "simetric" style of compositions and sheet music and all that, which I'm absolutely ignorant btw

Messiaen is one of my favourite composers of all time - he didn't just compose chamber music; Track down "Turangalila Symphony" - it's awesome.
Out of all the composers I ever studied, it was the multifaricity of Messiaen's approaches that really got me composing in anger - the styles are so flexible that you can suddenly find yourself composing jazz pieces without intending to!

I was wondering what the people in the know here think about these two sets:
Messiaen Edition [BOX SET]
Olivier Messiaen: Complete Organ Works [BOX SET]
Are those good performances that convey well what the composer meant to create?
I have a few of his compositions (from his variuos periods) and so are these (especially the first one) a good affair for someone who wants a representation of his varied output from different periods?
Is the second one needed at all next to the first one?
Thanks ahead for the replies.
