The Italian atlantide is always in discussion from many time. But suspended because all RPI is in... "brine".

For me the Italian/ Gernany Atlantide are a good HP band, in every case.

I think both deserve to be evaluated here... Wink

The French band Atlantide released to my knowledge only this self-titled album in 1976. The major problem with this band was in my opinion their very shameless and unveiled stealing of riffs and themes from Yes. Every song on the album features parts and themes that are more or less lifted directly from various Yes-classics. The opening title-track has in the beginning and the end the same riff as "Heart of the Sunrise" and the short, acoustic "Le Regard Des Dieux" that sounds just like "Your Move" from "I've Seen All Good People" follows this track. "Images" is an acoustic instrumental where some chords sounds VERY similar to "Mood for a Day". The 12-minute "Soleil Moir" opens with the theme from the mid-part of "South Side of the Sky" but played on acoustic guitar instead of piano. And as if this isn't enough, a riff from "Sound Chaser" appears right after that part! Despite some good things, like the pleasant and melodic vocals (not too common in French progressive rock), I have problems with taking this album seriously. Cloning a band's sound is one thing, but to steal all their riffs and claim them to be your own is way too pathetic.

Atlantide

Lineup:
Mimmo Sanseverino - guitar, vocals
Leonardo Sanseverino - organ, synthesizer
Mario Sanseverino - bass
Matteo Sanseverino - drums

Album:
Francesco Ti Ricordi, 1974 Private Press SP 1476
(reissued on CD by Mellow, MMP 260)

This band was based in Germany, where their only album was released as a limited edition in 1974. Their sound was very heavy, energetic and loud, dominated by tough fuzz guitar (sometimes multi-tracked), organ and a high-pitched vocalist comparable to Nico Di Palo in New Trolls. Being isolated from the Italian progressive rock scene, Atlantide were probably more influenced by British heavy rock groups like Black Sabbath and Atomic Rooster and their German counterparts. The best track is the 11-minute "Quando La Luna" where the music ranged from rather heavy to extremely heavy! As such, the album is recommended for fans of heavy-progressive music, but it is perhaps too limited instrumentally and lacking in variety for others. Still, the album is remarkable for its stunning fuzz guitar sound!

Taken from Scented Gardens of the Mind - A guide to the Golden Era of Progressive Rock (1968-1980) in more than 20 European Countries, by Dag Erik Asbjørnsen, Borderline Productions, ISBN 1-899855-12-2

Coming from southern Italy, Atlantide were a family band made by four brothers, based in Rottweil (Germany) since 1973. In that country they supported such major bands like Message, Atlantis, Scorpions, gaining a good live experience and press reviews.

For mysterious reasons their self-produced album, only released in Germany in 1976, is completely sung in italian, and very different from the typical production of the time, being a hard-rock album with very small prog influences and based on the good fuzz guitar playing of Mimmo Sanseverino. Italian listeners will find the singer's strong dialect accent a bit disturbing, but the record is very well played and includes six long tracks varying in length from 5 minutes to the 11:15 of the long La luna.

This group has nothing to do with another band called Atlantide from France, that released an eponymous LP in 1976 on Crypto

Formed in 1972 in southern Italy, but swiftly making the decision to base themselves in Rottwei, Germany, Atlantide was a Black Sabbath/Atomic Rooster-esque band formed by four brothers, guitarist Mimmo, keyboard player Leonardo, bassist Mario and drummer Matteo Sanseverino. Swiftly establishing themselves in their adopted homeland, Atlantide gained considerable exposure touring with the likes of the Scorpions, Atlantis and Message - although, when they came to cut their one and only album, as late as 1976, they remained loyal to their roots, performing the songs entirely in Italian. Issued on the band's own S label, Francesco Ti Ricordi was nevertheless released in Germany only. It has since been reissued on the Mellow label. ~
