My favorite albums are as follows:

Jethro Tull - Ministrel in the Gallery

Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis?

Rush - 2112

Now I am looking for more artists which I would enjoy. I tried YES, the albums Fragile and Closer to the Edge and they really don't appeal to me. Am I not a true prog fan?

Here goes:

Classic:

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound

King Crimson - Lark's Tongues in Aspic

Gentle Giant - Three Friends, Free Hand

Emerson, Lake and Powell - Brain Salad Surgery

Others: Camel, Soft Machine, Van Der Graaf Generator

New(er) Bands:

Echolyn - As the World

Syzygy - The Allegory of Light

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons

Salem Hill - Be

(You don't like Yes, so I won't suggest TFK or Spock's Beard or Transatlantic)

Some many choices, aaarrgghghh!

Maybe we can make a TRUE Proghole outta you!!!!!!!!

well, I would suggest you start with Dream Theater. The band is heavily influenced by Rush, and they are in the top echelon of musicians. They are at the forefront of the prog metal movement and a great introduction to that period.

If you like the keyboard sounds of Supertramp, I'd recommend you try ELP. they also have a excellent keyboard sound (thanks to Keith Emerson) and are a great overall band. Recommended if you like the sounds of earlier prog opposed to modern prog.

I`ll definitely go along with the Dream Theater recommendation. I just saw them in Montreal. I only have one Dream Theater CD,Change Of Seasons and it has all the prog elements.in it plus more if you like heavy influences as well such as Iron Maiden, Metallica etc. For earlier stuff from the seventies bands like Gentle Giant and Early King Crimson are in the same vein as the Jethro Tull album you already have.  Or just check out bands at random in the archives to see what people have to say about them.

Brain Salad Surgery -ELP is my favourite but you can't go too much wrong with these either:

Genesis - Selling England By The Pound

Yes - Close To The Edge ( persevere with it!)

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King

IQ - Tales From The Lush Attic

Marillion - Season's End

Anglagard - Hybris

Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence

Steve Hackett - To Watch The Storms

Also do you have later Rush albums like Power Windows,Moving Pictures and Counterparts? Sometimes people who have 2112 make the mistake (IMO) of stopping with just their seventies albums but there's a whole world of great Rush music that followed in the eightes and nineties to explore.

The same would apply to Yes. If he doesn't like '70's Yes, maybe 90125 would spark him, it's a totally different animal then CTTE.

I have Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves. As for the other two you mentioned, never listened to it. I liked 70s Rush because I prefer the metal sound to new-age. I would be crucified if I admitted this to a Rush fan, but I even like Vapour Trails (2002) better than Waves or Pictures.

I dunno, It would be a long stretch to call permanent waves 'new age', if the word even has any objective meaning. if anything, Grace under Pressure through Hold your Fire can be classified as new age

I'm sorry... I meant to say new-wave, not new-age.
