The romance in the series was super well handled.

That reminds me, I've got to watch the film, see if it's anywhere near as good as the series.

Just finished watching Fate/Zero. Surprisingly good series, even if it does seem to retcon a fair bit of Fate/Stay Night, but since that's getting a remake this year maybe that'll change.

How funny is the portrayal of Americans in Steins;Gate... I've seen this sort of thing in other anime but never this bad.

Given that most of it comes from Okabe when he's playing up his Kyouma persona, it isn't remotely meant to be taken seriously.

Also, it's pointless to look for a realistic portrayal of western cultures in anime, with the insular nature of Japan there's just a lot less chance of that happening.

Yes. Discussion on Steins; Gate. I own it and have watched it four times. Certainly is a ride indeed after episode 12 it goes to a whole new level. And I agree it's very well written and funny. The movie is also very good too.
I just finished Elfen Lied last week, that was amazing too. Very shocking and interesting.

I saw it. I think I prefer the first episode of the original series, mainly for the art style. Crystal's art style is not terrible, it's just not my cup of tea.

In Crystal's defense, its first episode had two things I wish the original had.

1. Usagi/Sailor Moon sliding down the stairs. Pure genius.

2. The monster being distracted by Moon's crying instead of Tuxedo Mask's rose toss and the aforementioned crying. I don't hate Tuxedo Mask, I just think the original animé overused his last minute saves. In fact, on a prog related note, the creators overused it so much, I sometimes refer to Mask as Biggles, as a in-joke to the "Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday?" line from Jethro Tull's Thick As A Brick.
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

A little delayed - oh well.
Really enjoyed the finale, ties up things well and still had that emotional punch that the series has been delivering. I'll be watching the movie and OVA material for sure later on down the road. Steins;Gate was so good that i made into me Top 5 Anime.

In no order..

Kill la Kill
Attack on Titan
Steins;Gate
Code Geass
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
