Anybody checked out this Canadian band yet. Their new album In the Future is getting really good reviews (and has a cool cover).
Just listening to the donwloadable stuff from their website and checking out their MySpace stuff and it's pretty cool stoner rock in a 70s Sabbath vein.

I got this album the other day too; I'm surprised these guys didn't make any waves on this site as there's a definite prog influence on their work. I saw an interview with one of them and he mentioned how King Crimson's 'In The Court Of The Crimson King' was his favourite track, whilst gushing over the mellotron.
 
Can hear that Zeppelin/Sabbath thing for sure, but unlike Wolfmother, I think they transcend it. There's even a fair bit of Floyd/Tangerine Dream influence on their sound to my ears.

Yeah I reckon they are definitely worthy of consideration for the site - especially as the sticker on the front of their album specifically says Pscyh-and-Prog spiritual pioneers Black Mountain Smile

Album's really good. Bit of noodly synth work, some spacey overtones, crunching 70s guitars, bit of folky acoustic. Can hear bits of King Crimson, Sabbath, Zeppelin, heavier Neil Young, all sorts really.
Definitely worth a listen people!

Love Black Mountain, but if you want to hear a more prog/psyche version rather than hard rock then you should check out McBeans other project, The Pink Mountaintops

I've always heard of the band when talking about Stoner Rock. I'm currently on the look out for them and if they sound proggy enough then they might have a place here in PA.

MAMMATUS
TITAN

All of them here in PA. Smile

Aside from those, Witchcraft is another great band that you'll like. They have a vintage sound to their music and it's very Sabbath influenced.

I'm listening to their new album 'In the Future' and there's no way they don't belong on here. The question is in what category, maybe heavy prog? Either way they're really awesome, I'll have to say their new album is better than The Mars Volta's and that's saying something.

National Public Radio has them as the Artist of the Day. Very cool. They call them Hipster Prog Rock, whatever the heck that is.
 
The song on the NPR website is reminiscent of older Prog. If all their material is like this, they deserve a spot on this site.

Listening to this album while typing this. I never heard of them before but the guy in the record store recommended me this. After listening some songs I was convinced to buy this and I haven't had any regrets ever since. And indeed, there's some strong hints of older prog in here, some synth parts even remind me of Tangerine Dream.

I came across the fresh Black Mountain CD In The Future at my work in the library and checked if the band's in PA. Why not yet, even if it's been talked about here already in January? Hopefully the Psych/Space Rock team are working on it.

PS. Totally new band to me, but seems really interesting...
   The sticker on the CD: "Psych-and-prog-spiritual pioneers Black Mountain are back with their second full-lenght album. It has the epic ring, the beloved deep rock touchstones and the genius folk fragility that made their self-titled debut an instant classic."
 
King By-Tor (on another Black Mountain thread): "I came across this Canadian five piece recently and wondered how they didn't make any waves on this site! I think these guys would make an excellent addition to Space rock as they've done a great job mixing some of the styles of modern rock music with the old space prog stylings. While I haven't heard their new album, their first album is very very good with some great progressive pieces on it."
