OVERHEAD is a Finnish band, that has so far released two albums.
They announced this in their website recently:

15-Jan-2008 The recording of the new album is in the final stages and the band will soon start mixing the album! More news to follow.

After the new album is ready Overhead will record Tabula Rasa's song Vuorellaistuja for Tuonen Tytär 2 - A Tribute to Finnish Progressive.

While waiting for the new album, please go to Swedenrock.com and vote for Overhead for the festival!

So, I thought this is a good opportunity to go over their past achievements thus far.

I like both album, but Zumanthum has a feeling of a young and not yet mature band, while Metaepitome is much more ripe and well done. However, the last track in Metaepitome has a buildup that doesn't deliver. There should have been a climax there that never arrives. That's a shame as it could have been such a better track. Other than that, it's a very good album and I look forward to their next.

Your comments to threads in PA have the same effect...

Is it that since you have nothing to say, you just have to show how witty you are?

I like both cds, however, like you, I prefer the second, even though they rip-off Deep Purple's "Child in TIme" in the first song.  Though, for me, that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the album, I am sure it would bother some people on this forum.

Having only heard the debut, I can't vote. I have to admit that Overhead are not that much to my liking though, talented as they may be. Zumanthum was 'pleasant', but not much else, imo. Embarrassed

Ok, carry on, the party pooper is off now!

Hey hey, Jimbo, long time no speak! Smile
Yeah, Zumanthum isn't the best piece in the world, but it's enjoyable. Metaepitome is an improvement though; I hope they'll continue to improve with their new album.

Metaepitome is absolutely fantastic, including Dawn and especially its final minutes. Zumanthum is a good debut showing a lot of promise, but the step up to Metaepitome is spectacular.

I've heard some new songs live a couple of times, and I haven't been too impressed...

I only know Metaepitome so I won't vote but one thing is sure, this group is very promising! According to PA, their first album is also nice, I think I will check it before long.

Their music is very varied and hard to define (which justifies the ranking in crossover prog), and I am sure their next album will amaze us.
Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.

Just noticed the typo in the thread title ;)
I would have to say the second is the best, I feel more attached to the songs on it and it feels more complete. Can't wait for the new one! Got any more info on length / name / release date ? :D

Nothing official on those yet, but I've had a couple of chats about the album with Tarmo Simonen (I think he was drunk when we talked, so I don't know if I can rely on him :P) and the Circusfolk guys (Simonen produced their album and they heard many unfinished tracks) and some of the things I remember them saying are: the lenght is about 60 minutes (I'm not really sure about this one), it's some kind of a theme album divided onto two "sides", the longest track is about 15 minutes, the style is a bit more straightforward than the previous albums. And supposedly it sounds great, but to tell you the truth (again) I haven't been thrilled by the songs I've heard live so far... Probably they sound better in the album context than live in between old favorites I already know inside out.

Metaepitome is more mature than Zumanthum. So I voted for it. Smile

I met Tarmo Simonen again last night at a Circusfolk gig, and he said they're mixing the album and will start looking for a distributor when the album is mixed and mastered. Everything's going well, but the album will definitely not be out before their next gig in Helsinki, which is on March 27th.
