I've heard these guys and they sound awesome. I really want to pick up one of their albums... any recommendations?

I would get Millions Now Living..., TNT is also great though. Djed is a right song.

TNT, but all of them are good. The only one I'm not familiar with is the debut, and the Brave and the Bold is a covers album, so I wouldn't recommend it.

I like their first album the most actually. It's more instrument/jamming led and sounds more pure than the others, although Millions Now Living would be a close second.
Their most recent release (The Brave and the Bold) has vocals and, quite frankly, doesn't sound like tortoise at all.

I have standars, and it's pretty weird. Drum beats with some dissonant guitar arpeggios...
I'll have to isten more before I pass a final judgment though.

Of the three I've heard (their first three albums) TNT is by far the best.
The others are good, but not as good as TNT.

I'm a relative newbie to the Tortoise soundworld myself. But thanks to a well-stocked Erie County library system I was recently able to hear the band's first five studio albums, all at once. Cast my vote for Standards, their fourth: it's showcases a little more aggression than their earlier efforts, and updates that familiar krautrock lounge sound (think of the band Stereolab, clearly kindred spirits) to the new millenium.
But all of them are worth hearing...

TNT gets my vote.
Standards is probably the hardest to get into, although it has its moments. It's All Around You was a real return to form, and is probably the lushest and closest to prog of their albums.

The Stereolab album Dots and Loops was produced by John McEntire and several tracks are effectively a collaboration between the two bands; well worth checking out.

Shame on me. I only have Millions Now Living... and TNT. I'm a huge fan of TNT so that would get my vote, but I'll wait to listen to them all before voting.

I have a CD that a friend of mine burned for me, he wrote Tortoise Re-mixes on the CD. It's obviously a collection of Tortoise re-mixes that came out on one CD.
Do any of you know which Tortoise CD that would be, I like it a lot.

I find them a bit hit-or-miss. When they're good they're excellent (Gamera, Djed and Cliff-Dweller Society spring to mind) but there are a lot of tracks that really don't do it for me. I reckon the most consistent album is probably Millions Now Living Will Never Die.
