Dillinger

 

They produced a couple of albums back in the mid 70's.Both albums featured long tracks(the first one even includes a side-longer),mellotron,organ,synth,flute,sax,ect...All the prog pre-reqisites are here.

 

The music tends to be on the heavier side,with a light bluesy/jazzy touch especially on their first eponymous album.On the second the jazzy aspects are less obvious and are beign replaced with a poppier sound but far from commercial crap.I 'd compare them to bands like Uriah Heep,Argent,Manfred Mann's Earth Band,Santana,ELP and many other art-rock/hard prog bands of the 70's.

 

They would make a nice addition to the heavy prog section or even ecclectic or at least prog related.

I guess we all seem to discover the odd eccentric and exotic band from far away but fail to see those right under our own nose!

 

Glad to see that you agree with me.Dillinger were great and more prog fans need to be aware of their existence.

For the record,after the second album,a couple of members split and formed the heavier band ''The Hunt'' who relesed a very good first album with prog tendencies,a second not so bad,still with little prog traits but a third awful pop metal album.

 

Their drummer,Robert Harisson went on to play for Offenbach in the eraly 80's.He and his brother Jacques(keybords with Dillinger/The Hunt) were from Quebec.
