Would that be Pallas as in "I have a photo of Jim Garten kissing his favourite Pallas album"?

DB - I tried simple white, but I never get responses. Or was it because my post ran past 500 words. How about smileys' proliferation, capital letter free for ALLS, parentheses pandemics, asides run wild, never ending digressions, ever acidic aspersions, and the ever popular - big word trip through the thesauruseseseses.

That, and fewkin' huge QUOTE PYRAMIDS! Angry

DB - you mean those where 3 or more posters intermingle their arguments ?

Oh, and MASSIVE, slow-loading sig pics too! Angry

DB - yeah, that and a listing of their lastfm or whatever recent playlist. AS IF I CARE WHAT YOU'VE JUST SPENT TIME LISTENING TO ON YOUR COMPUTER !

And endless lists of songs and artists sans any illuminating commentary!Angry

DB - that reminds me of a good example ...

And the lack of sleep due to staying up way too late on this pointless, addictive, wonderful forum....Sleepy

DB - ah sleep , perchance to REM. But this is not meant as an attempt to slyly introduce a debate as to the possible inclusion of that band in prog related.

THUMP! Ouch (falls asleep on floor)

DB  - (being francophone) quote Quoi ?

A few things which would do our beloved professor's blood pressure no end of benefit would be the following:

1 - Installation of a working automatic spell-check system.
DB - English or American ?

2 - A system whereby the word "best" is automatically replaced by "favorite"
DB - I think I drove Dallas Bryan & Rocktopus nuts making that arguement. And Favourite is Favourite. God save the Queen's English says this french canadian acadian ...

3 - "under-rated" and "over-rated" be asterix'd out completely

DB - Understood. Not only Asterix'd but Obelix'd, too. (let's see how many get that one )

4 - For it to be made impossible to use the words "Dream Theater" in polls (at least if there are any more than 15 identical polls already on the front page)

DB - DT ?

DB - How about the knowing attempt at insider status in using acronyms  instead of the actual album's title ? WYWH, DSOTM, TAAB, APP, TFTO, CTTE, ITCOTCK, SOADBDCS, FOABP,TLLDOB,SEBTP ET AL.. Especially ITCOTCK. It almost reeks of something 'pornographic ...

It is actually possible for me (as an admin) to put #2 and #3 above into practice... I could also arrange it so whenever anyone types in the word "Pallas", the words "Poo-Head" are substituted...

DB - alas, Pallas is a word I use only as a last resort. I do love their song Arrive Alive.

\

P.s. And the wrath inflicted when you are found guilty of not having read all 3000 posts on a thread and repeated something found on page 5 of 16. I only have so much time & so much beer before I lose the point of my arguement.

Re the ITCOTCK, it has been noted long before -- I think it was our own acerbic (< no thesaurus used -- ever -- in my postsApprove) Tony R who first dubbed it "ITCHYC*CK." LOL

I'm not going to read the whole thread right now (there's a common occurrence here, all to often people don't take the time to read what's been said, and so repeat someone else's point, when they could have added to it, or miss explanations already given).

These are not favourite tendencies, but they can amuse me as much as exasperate me.

In polls or lists, people saying, "Where the hell is so-and-so?"  Which is especially obnoxious when someone has provided an "other" in a poll, already explained why they limited the options, or it's irrelevant to the subject (that can be funny).  Again in polls, people who don't read the question and/ or the initial post and so don't follow instructions.  I've played around with that a bit to see if people are paying attention, and have seen (or might have done it), a poll which asked for least favourite and various people mistakenly voted for their favourites.

Another one from polls:  You have but two choices (say the question might be "which album sounds better to you") and someone votes for choice A because they haven't heard choice C.  In many cases, one might at least expect someone who is going to vote to search for some streaming samples before voting.

Though it's true that music should not be treated like an Olympic event, I'm sure that many who voted in the Prog Olympics tournaments had never heard all of the options in each poll.  Imagine a figure skating competition where the judges do not bother to watch all of the performances and so can only vote for the ones they saw (we weren't around for x's performance so y wins!).

Another Prog Archives tendency amongst some is to be so PC sometimes that people resist giving a negative opinion in band threads (and there are those who seem to take offence at people who dare to express that they don't like the same music)... I'd much rather see a mix of positive and negative opinions.  It's a matter of taste, anyway, so why take personal offence?  I also think it's very progressive of people to try music that will be harder to enjoy (one doesn't have to buy it, but try the streams here or at myspace).  TO me it's been important to step out of my comfort zone and attempt different kinds of music, and like it or not, involve myself in discussion about the music.  I find it sadly amusing how some people take someone else not liking (and expressing so) their preferred music as a personal affront.

Go ahead Art Zoyd haters, make my day!

Oops, I went into rant mode.  And aren't those rambling ranters funny?

what's better? BitWoA, Retro, SWA, FP, SR, RM, UtF, A&E, PH, or TSONE?

those abbreviations drive me nuts and requires too much brain power to figure them out.

Clap Long posts are my favourite non-ironic progarchives tendency. It could be said that more people need to make them. By me.

Paragraphs are neato. Thumbs%20Up There are a lot of posters who have been here for years yet almost never bother to elaborate on their feelings, stances and tastes and as a consequence they remain rather anonymous and homogenous. I think it's a little sad that people log onto a forum to say almost nothing at all.

Forum: an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest. I hope that everyone realises the keyword buried in that definition is "discussion" rather than "formation of lists" or "snarkism" yet right now it's often blood from a stone-alicious. ;P

We FCAs are too humble to capitalize our ethnic descriptor. That's how we managed to avoid being assimilated by the english majority. They didn't notice us too often. Though some of them now understand what the term "tete carre" means (sorry, english keyboard, no accent grave or aigue) available). I am proud to say though, that my Ancestor Great great (i'm not sure how many greats, but ...) grandfather landed at Bouctouche around 1755 as a result of the deportation. I am also proud of the fact that no one in my family , paternal or maternal side, goes on whining, complaining, or in general insisting on some sort of apology from the Queen about the deportation of 1755. It happened, but it does not have any effect at all on our life today. Acadians, as an ethnic "bunch" are still around and having more fun than most. If the Queen should apologise for anything, it would be for marrying Phil, that greek interloper, instead of a good canadian boy like Clapton's mom did.
And lastly, apologies to Laplace. I would have extended this missive to my usual over consumption of space, but my wife suggested some incomplete renovations that I could busy myself with. And being that our daughter is sleeping over at Memere's tonight, there's no harm in getting foreplay under way early Wink

OH, I used to remember the rules as to when to use commas, semi-colons, other grammar thingies I can't remember right now, and also when to begin a paragraph. But sometimes I can't handle thinking when I'm writing. Cool

Now where did I hide that Hammer and Nails ???

Now there's a post which will not be read by many; it's (a) intelligently written & (b) uses words longer than those which certain members, more comfortable with that wretched 'text-ese' will be familiar with

Many do, but few take time to actually read them... which can lead to another of PA's wonderful tendencies - long rambling arguments about trivial (so-called) facts, which (a) have nothing to do with the original thread, and (b) could have been avoided in the first place had the original post been read not just looked at...

I blush as I thank you for having read & commented on my little piece. I also had to go back & re-read to see what was actually intelligent about itEmbarrassed.
I do read the long posts, but only those of certain PA members. And I don't mean just those that quote or reply to mine.

In my short PA existance I have seen lots of Dream Theater posts, but I guess that the most amusing statement is "If band X is here, then band Y should be!!"

LOL
