I'm quite impresed by the PA sample of Modra Rijeka, Indexi is a band to check out.

Modra rijeka must be one of the best non-English language prog albums out there...Thumbs%20Up

I'm here, obviously. Been out of the site recently.

I cannot but repeat the same words I wrote for this wonderful band and album:

5%20stars This is one of the most exciting discoveries of the last years. Being 1978, this album is far from being experimental but... well, it's fantastic, pure, rough (rough as a rough diamond), aggressive, sad, poetic, dramatic, anguishing, melodic, sensual, hard, intelligent, intense, deep, obscure, sweet, relaxing, pastoral sometimes... in few words:

perfect!

Of the ingredients above, sadness is the most important, musically, Sadness and poetry.

“Modra Rijeka”, english for “Blue River”, is based upon the self titled real cicle of poems and partially is based upon recitative parts, as in the opening move and in “Zapis o Zemlij”.

Sound is a real joy, featuring, above all, impressive work on bass guitar, acoustic guitar, classic piano, hammond organ and moog soloing (sometimes duets and “battles”) as you hear in the song “Blago” and in the extended track “More” (11,20 mns) and even in “More II” (4,19).

All instruments are definitely masterfully balanced. Attention! This is not a keyboard based album, it's more a mix between heavy and symphonic prog with that “GRANDEUR” that only comes from the masterworks. Great, great work on acoustic guitar. Passion, passion, friends. This is music I want to listen to.

And you, listen to me: “More”, please. What a big, big, huge impression caused to me this song! Wonderful and aggressive bass guitar solo and duet within a superb acoustic guitar!!

I repeat: listen to “More”, please. What a big, big, huge impression caused to me this one!

The album is a real gem, a must have for any good prog lover, especially for those who like symphonic and heavy prog. A very inspired yugoslavian band with attention to their own original mood.

The album is at the same level of other big opus: it has also its own “Lucky Man”: the beautiful, melodic, sad and joyful “Slovo o Covjeku”.

I see that my english cannot really give you the idea of what I've found in Modra Rijeka. Please, pay attention to internet where you can find this wonderful album. The best from Yugoslavia. On the top 5 of my entire discography.

His favorite motives were horses and female faces. Even during my elementary school years in mid 70s, his pictures used to decorate the school textbooks...Big%20smile

I've only  a great compilation with a Yugo version of The Beatles "A Hard Days Night" ("Ucini Jednom Bar") and a Rolling Stone's version cover of a song that in this moment I do not remember but with this title "Vrijeme je na mojoj strani".

As soon as I can do the review!

Mandrakeroot, this is excellent compilation you got, because it contains many rare tracks from the 60s plus several key prog songs. The Rolling Stones song was Time is on my Side, which is covered here!

Hi guys,

Nice threads,all those Yugo bands.I must admit,I don't have much knowledge about these bands.I only have 4 CDs from Yugo;

Both Tako albums:Outstanding!Clap
The Drugi Nacin/Nepocin two on One CD:Amazing!Thumbs%20Up
And Indexi's Modra Rijeka:Great!Tongue

Now I  see that they have only 3 studio albums and a ton of compilations.I'd like to get one or more of these compilations. They must contain songs that are not on Modra Rijeka and of course most of the music must be progressive in some ways.No 60's beat/pop or syrupy ballads if possible.A few tracks on an album is Ok BUT NOT THE BULK OF IT.

Anyone can suggest something?

Thanks!

Alain

Yesterday, I heard very good, although I was in the car. Then, unfortunately, I have heard other and... I lost the opportunity to make a review!

In any case, it is really fantastic. Certainly recommend!

Alain, try download this one: http://rapidshare.com/files/12570184/Indexi_-_Indexi__1972__YUG.rar

It is a very rare cassette tape issued in 1972. Many of the songs were never released on any other format.
No beat pop, no syrupy ballads, only prog!

Unfortunately, this is the only format (mp3) which is available to find now.

If you prefer original CD quality, then go for "U inat godinama", 2CD posted above by Mandrakeroot. It is very good collection with few 60 beat and ballads and many key prog songs.

As Sejo wrote, thats only prog and indeed my favorite Indexi release, everyone should listen to 'Negdje u kraju u zatisju' its possibly the best ex-yu prog song, the first ex-yu prog epic anthem.
Everyone should check it out!

Modra Rijeka is the latest addition to my collection, and my first exposure to Indexi and Yugoslavian prog in general.

I am listening to it right now. It is an awesome ( I know this is an overused word today ... but it fits ) piece of prog that I am really getting into Cool Thumbs%20Up

It is just a shame I have no idea what they are singing about! LOL

I've been listening to that cassette for a while now - it's an excellent release. Definitely "rocks"!
