As reported by member B_Olariu in our polls section: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=47930 , Brian Davison of The Nice sadly passed away this week.

His former band mate Keith Emerson pays his own tribute to him on his website:

you know... for all the thanks we are giving him.. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the one, as his life passed before his eyes.. was the one who felt  thankful.

Imagine living for music.. being a part of such an incredible time of music. Knowing, meeting and playing with with some truly incredible musicians. We lament his passing .. knowing deep down that when we pass ...  there will no threads.. internet announcements and tributes..  only the grieving of family and a few friends. Some won't even have that.  He lived a special and rewarding life.. where a part of him.. in his music.. will live forever.  Think about that for a second as we grind through our day to day lives... chasing whatever we deem to be important.. money, jobs, success.. and know in the end.. it is all worthless.  What matters is how you live your life.. and how others remember you and the mark you left on the world.

just a thought.  He is probably more thankful than any of us ever could be.

He'll be here with us long after today as some of us will listen his music forever. I'm jealous of him, for my words will be forgotten in time, but his music lives on.

so I don't mourn his passing, just celebrate his excistenceClap

My condolences to those who were close to Brian.

He left behind a great legacy, The Nice in particular made a lot of great eccentric psychedelic progressive rock. They are easily one of my favorite bands from the late 60s.

I saw him play with The Nice back in 2003.  Very sad news.

As much as I love the NICE; I'll never forget the first time I heard Brian Davison's 'Every Which Way' LP. Thanks Brian.

A very underrated drummer, as shows with only 10 posts before mine. If he was with some other less prog band, the thread would be pages long. A giant amongst real prog drummers, if only he wasn't in the first real prog band, and made commercial music in his later years, so many people would be spilling tales and of pure genius....fortunatley the man didn't and remained true to his roots, also he hated being called Blinky.....may he rest in peace.
