Satanique Samba Trio
Not satanic and not a trio, this avant-garde group plays a fascinating mixture of styles, from avant-rock to jazz, a bit of metal and weird folk. Their instrumentation is as varied as the styles they incorporate into their music.
Original and eerie, this band will be of interest to fans of bands like Sleepytime Gorrila Museum, Doctor Nerve and of other avant-rock bands. http://www.myspace.com/sataniquesambatrio http://www.sataniquesambatrio.net/ Reviews: Satanique Samba Trio offer a message from the void within ourselves - raves.com Grimoire folk. Or call it Faustian world jazz. Satanique Samba Trio, which seizes the listener with terribly acidic, hallucinogenic intellectual f**k folk, is "satanic" in that it flies in the face of the pugnacious conservatism of Brasilia's traditional samba scene. It is an utter turmoil of music culture. This diabolical samba threesome is dissonant and defiant of ideas of conventional aural beauty and contemptuous of those who would restrain the reign of creativity; but they are not turmoil though they may strike with such force. This music is meticulous, yet flows like mercury and lava. It is satanic in a way of majestic beauty. This is absolute libertarianism of art. Satanique Samba Trio's songwriting and performance skills will test your spirits; you durst not be found lacking. These songs will match you blow for blow and they move with such grace and hypnotic power. Satanique Samba Trio offer a message from the void within ourselves. It is a musically evolutionary phoenix rising from hot, scalding ashes and raising you up as a sacrifice to jazz, to folk, to the strains of world music, to prog, to math music ... it is a paean to brilliance.-- review by Kristofer Upjohn sounds like what downtown New Yorkers have been trying to accomplish for years - Exclaim!

I'm disappointed - neither of these players are avant-garde! Al di Meola.
haha i know. but the poll itself is avant-garde
|

Hahahaha
Not satanic, not trio, not samba???!!!
Yes, Satanique Samba Trio is a very remarkable Brazilian avant rock ~ jazz rock band. I own 2 stuff in my collection and they are worth listening if you like Hermeto Pascoal, Frank Zappa, Mark Nauseef, etc avant ~ jazz rock oriented prog rock.

Guigo, that pic of the exorcist was brilliant!
But don't worry, it's all a show, they're not satanique (nor are they a samba band...)

Thier sound is indeed surprising and mindful... someone looking for novelty (avant) will find it with SST.

I've recently...let's say...discovered their first album...
Damn. Amazing. Unique. Bursts with energy avantness and a strange folky quality. My only true complaint is its way too short.
But still...

this band gets stranger every time I type its name!
I've bumped into discussions about them on a lot of portuguese-speaking forums. It seems one of SS3(as they abreviate their signature) members is a vale-tudo ( mixed martial arts) professional fighter! there is some controversy about their relation with satanism, as some people are saying the band leader/conductor/composer is a 'real life satanist' indeed. I dont know how much we should rely on this data, but it was very fun to dig it up.
the relevant bit: these rough samba players (and some "music school renegades", for all I care) are about to release some sort of digital album or EP. In fact, it seems to be weeks away from hitting itunes and virtual stores. I don't know how is it going to be called, so I'll stick around their myspace profile.
p.s.: they're quite a sensation in my home town, back in brazil. one of my homies will take a bus ride to check 'em live in Brasilia. their show is highly recommended around youtube and mail lists, so I'm looking foward for his feedback. I'll let you guys know... ;)

Apart from some longer tracks their tracklists look like the ones grindcore albums.
An entertaining band for sure. |

actually, they released a full-lenght LP last year called "Sangrou" that features songs from 1 minute to ...8! In my opinion, that's Satanique Samba Trio finest album. Mind blowing, at least! I strongly recommend it...
