Found about this band in another forum.
Not sure yet which genre, but have a listen and see for yourself.

Their background from their website:

Brazilian band, progressive rock with some influences of jazz rock, more than 25 years on the road, motivated by the passion to the music, with different line-ups in their releases, always looking for innovation and respect from their listeners, musicians and people in general.

We are also interested in the matters of human development, through philosofical integralist studies and participation in volunteering actions.

History

Everything began in a meeting in 1982, when a band called Bandeira Rasgada came out. Eduardo Miranda (Guitar), Nelson Sanchez (Vocals), Jorge Sanchez (Bass), Wladimir Augusto (Drums) started playing hard rock music.

Later with keyboards, Nelson Sanchez and Henrique Valsésia (Saxophone & Vocals), started to make new songs with elaborate arrangements; they then decided to change the band's name to Ultima Geracao.

After some time, another new name emerged: Renascenca. With this name, the group became known in Sao Paulo's underground and entered the studio to record 2 songs, which got the support of important musical critics.

In 1986, Nelson Sanchez left the band and Alessandro Miranda took his place. The band presented some gigs in Sao Paulo. During this time, they released their first album, called Renascenca, with special guest Amir Cantúsio Jr. From this time on the band started to be called Wejah.

After this record, the band broke up. In the middle of 1991, Miranda and Augusto re-formed the band with Jorge Sanchez and Celso Santos, composing a new experimental sound, but it didn't last. Together again,  Miranda, Jorge Sanchez, Augusto, with Marcelo Perez (keyboards) and Maurício Freitas (Vocals), performed some shows in 1993, but this line-up didn't last either.

Augusto left the band and Alexandre Crescenzi took his place.

At the beginning of 1995, Freitas left the band and Wejah decided on instrumental music. At the end of that year, Wejah showed a new sound inspired by a work called "Senda" (Narrow Road) and recorded the CD Senda.

1997 - After some shows a new break-up again, and Jorge Sanchez went to Paris to play with Recordando o Vale das Maças (RVM) with Milton Bernardes;

1998 - Eduardo, Wladimir and Jorge reassumed the band, but no cd was released;

2004 - Jorge Sanchez, Nelson Sanchez, Marcelo Perez and Milton Bernardes started the new project "Springtime";

2005 - Braulio Veiga and Wladimir Augusto share drums as Milton Bernardes leaves the band;

2006 - Luiz Fernando takes over Wejah drums and percussion;

2007 - CD Springtime released.

OMG... I'm ashamed I've never heard a thing about them and the only name mentioned that does something to me is of Cantúsio Jr, from Alpha III. Embarrassed

Anyway, to be checked! Smile

And here's their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/wejah

The band describes itself there as Progressive / Jazz / Fusion

InfluencesPROGRESSIVE ROCK , JAZZ ROCK, FUSION.
Sounds LikeOZRIC TENTACLES, CAMEL , TERRY BOZZIO, KING CRIMSON, ALLAN HOLDSWORTH AMONG MANY OTHER INFLUENCES.

Just starting to listen to the myspace tracks:  I hear jazz-rock, heavy, psych, a more mainstream rock influence, other music.  Some post-rock similarities.  It's quite eclectic, I'll have to listen to more and give it more thought when I have time.

EDIT: Incidentally, not enough myspace samples, and more from the Avestin links, but just adding that as a supplement.

Que vergonha, Guigo! LOL

***********************************************************

I have their debut album, Renascença, and it is clearly a case for adding. Don't know which genre though, because though this album is primarly symphonic, it has many other influences.

This is another band I would propose for inclusion, but I have already given up proposing new additions.

Funny how we say the same thing in Italian... "che vergogna!"WinkLOL

Anyway, yesterday evening at home I listened to the samples available, and would be inclined to agree with Greg about their being Eclectic. They definitely deserve a spot here, wherever they are placed.

Well, It would be good to know whether any team is evaluatiing the band or not.

There is another Brazilian prog band lacking in PA, that is Topos Uranos. They released only one album in 1983, which is primarly symphonic, though has some jazz influences. If anyone is willing to evaluate, I can send some songs.

It's a shame that discussion died out on this quite fast before.  The band definitely deserves to be in the archives.  It would have been useful to get more opinions, and more teams' input.  I'd be okay with it in Eclectic (voting yes for the Eclectic chart).

The Eclectic team already accepted it and told me they're going to add it.
