From Calprog promoter Jim Harrel

An Evening With Neal Morse and his Band

Saturday September 6, 2008 – 8:00pm

The Downey Theater in Downey, California

Tickets On Sale July 12 - 8am
 Only at CalProg.com

Neal Morse is one of my PROG heroes. In fact, I'd say that his work with Spock's Beard was an essential force fueling my emersion in the new wave of progressive rock. Over the years he has been one of the most prolific artists in the genre, including his work with Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, and now his solo career. But not only is he a gifted writer and musician, he is one of the few artists performing today that has genuine charisma.

From the very first time I saw him with Spock's Beard (opening for Dream Theater) I was instantly drawn in by his warmth, wit and charm. He exudes an almost childlike delight with the music he plays, and that can be quite infectious. You can't help but be energized by his stage presence.

So it is with great excitement that CalProg welcomes Neal back to Southern California with a full prog band to perform a night of music spanning his entire career.  The last time he played here was the Testimony Tour in 2003, and if you were at that show you know just the kind of magic that I âm talking about. Whether you agree with the spiritual message of his solo works or not, there is no denying that an evening of Neal Morse music is an evening of fun and exhilaration.

My wish is that the concert is successful enough to warrant a trip to Texas!

^ Jim sold out (700 seats) a Liquid Tension Experiment show later this month at the same theater so I think this will sell out as well. But this is a "one off' show not a tour so there would have to be a promoter willing to take this on in Texas or elsewhere.

I've never listened to any of his solo stuff, but I noticed that he was also added to the bill of the 3 Rivers Progressive Rock fest, headlining the first day and going on right after Spock's Beard.

^ His set is supposed to have elements of SB, Transatlantic as well as his solo stuff. I imagine he won't be playing the same SB stuff that SB will. Wink

BTW that line up for the first 3 Rivers show is pretty impressive for the first go round.
