Oh yeah, people with bi-polar are just moody.  They need to quit complaining and move on.  Never mind that it's a severe mental illness which causes crippling stretches of depression, they're just MOODY.

Some coments haven't been much better , those who fail to see the point to this poll I suggest you stick to more mainstream polls that don't challenge you ... I was asking for advice in this poll  not making a personal judgment on Gabriel and btw Bi Polar = much more than just being moody  so do some bloody research on the subject  it involves taking crap like lithium to treat it that in itself is a condition of its own.

You're a complete idiot. There's a more tactful way to express that, but given how you just dismissed a serious and real illness, I don't feel like you deserve manners.

For those about to froth at the mouth - before responding to proggy ... take a moment to pity those who don't know any better ... because if they or a loved one ever suffer from a mental illness, their ignorance can only worsen an already cruel disease.
As for me, I'm diagnosed Bi-Polar II since June 2005, after going through several relapses into depression. And speaking for myself only, compared to proggy, I'd rather be mentally ill than mentally cripple.
Do read up on mental illnesses , proggy, and hope you never have to face the stigma that is attached to such diseases, let alone the affliction itself. Disapprove

Now to reply to the original post ... If I remember correctly, Gabriel went through a rough period in the late 80s in his relationship with a certain Ms. Arquette. I believe that I read an interview of his where he explained the song Digging in the Dirt was about the psycho-analysis that he went through to resolve some issues (don't take my word whether he actually got treatment, he may just have been explaining the idea behind the lyrics).
The Bi-Polar aspect is hard to diagnose. Unlike Poor lil' Britney who had the entire World trash tabloids dissecting her behaviour and actions, Gabriel has lived his personal life outside the spotlight.
Oh, btw, I do have pity for Ms. Spears. I have no love for her music, or career. But no one deserves to have to go through such mental suffering , and worse of all, to have it exposed to the world.

I voted no but I think that Bill O'Reilly can be added to that list of people that have it. He can turn on a dime during an interview.

Believe it or not there are more shocking things than bipolar take it from me I`m a sufferer of it and I believe rather than hiding the problem in some dark little corner and hope it goes away its better to bring it out in the open ..  I`m pleased I was diagnosed bipolar because I knew something was up ?   it was after that I learned to live with it.  I see nothing wrong with deviating from the normal posts if they are to some degree prog related and since this is about Peter Gabriel ...  why not talk about it , can't do any harm if hes not then hes a genius if he is he's just another person influenced by whats referred as "A Brilliant Madness"  ? his work is still just as valid  either way   !! nothing absurd about bipolar  ....  there is nothing to fear but fear itself except perhaps mans ignorance .  Thumbs%20Up

Being bi-polar is one of the "in" things at the moment. Not saying Gabriel doesn't suffer from it, but it's starting to seem absurd how many celebrities are all of a sudden announcing they are bi-polar.

Remember Epstein-Barr?

First of all there is a very thin line for most people on the ' Continuum'. One shift either way is all it takes to make one lean towards bipolar, or aspergers or ADHD etc. These illnesses affect everyday normal people  as well as celebs. In many cases it is that point of difference that allows for the creative spark in certain musicians. It is also a subject that should not be frowned upon whether some individuals express indifference. Additionally shutting down the thread would be laughable.

I say it is a good poll and worthy of participation by some. Looking at glimpses of Gabriel's personality it could well be true but as I believe in a ' continuum' of sorts I voted for otherSmile

Polls set up for the sole purpose of speculation on a person's alleged, rumoured and/or unproved illness has no place on this forum.

Do you know what nemesis means...?
