For example, I wouldn't go along with including either 90125 or Big Generator. I have both discs, and would rate them maybe as 3 and 2 1/2 stars respectively. I actually like "Shoot High, Aim Low" "The Rhythm of Love" (has to be played loud -- good guitar) and "Holy Lamb" on Big Generator. I find plenty to enjoy (but not in the same way that I enjoy classic Yes) on 90125.

Stuff that is really, really terrible is mainly made by less established and talented bands, especially outside prog, but why write about Celine Dion here?

Stern SmileThat's my humble opinion. Feel free to disagree -- just as we would soon disagree on any such proposed list....

That's the POINT, Peter.  We get to argue the pro's and con's and let the readers decide if it's something they want to spend their money on. Crikey, you musta just woke up from yer nappypoo, you sound cranky...

Yes, 90125! This tosh should never have found its way on to vinyl, let alone CD. Drama is a far better effort despite the Buggles input. Owner of a lonely heart?? A desperate attempt to court a female following (a la " Follow You, Follow Me".) After that I lost interest untill AWBH.

Even John McLaughlin has done this on a few albums from the 80's. I usually try and review music that I really like myself but sometimes it's impossible to convince people of the finer points of Guru Guru or some of the freaked out German stuff I've accumulated over the years.

Maybe we should initiate a "Don't waste yer money on this" thread. That way we could save each other from buying truly crappy music. As long as we all agree.

DON'T BUY

GTR - GTR

Love Beach (ELP)

Big Generator (YES)

Come Paint My Wagon (Jim Garten)

Anything at all (Celine Dion)

My own review of that album was none too kind, because I think it's terrible. I also cannot write a very lengthy review of an album that I hate -- what would be the point? Overall though, if I'm reviewing from within my own (long-term) collection, it tends to be of a CD that I really like. Usually, I know what I'm buying before I do so.

"I think it was an appropriately funny review. I have the album and it's one of those albums where you shake your head and say to yourself, "What the heck was going on in Ian Anderson's brain on this one!"

Well, I don't have that album, but I thought it was quite funny that he gave it ZERO STARS! However that happened....

I'm glad someone finally noticed these types of reviews ! Opinions are personal but some people are extremists in their opinions and too subjective (ie : "I hate this piece of cr*p" or "These guys are gods...)  I've noticed people usually give too many stars for CD reviews. In Chantraine's case he doesn't give enough and is an extremely harsh critic who likes shock value and usually puts one liners of subjective emoitional evaluations . To each his own but I don't put any faith in his reviews.I prefer objective descriptions of a CD accompanied by a personal appreciation like Peter Rideout,Manni, and others do, but I guess not everyone has the talent to write descent reviews. But then again this is just my opinion.Wink

JETHRO TULL Under Wraps
Review by chantraine @ 10:02:24 AM EST, 2/5/2004

0 stars  —  Get a Britney Spears lp , destroy the cd and this one along , throw away the J T sleeve but kkep the Spears one as it is definitely more valuable than this completely awful JT album . This is J T making a try to make new wave with the [&*!#]ty synth and rythm boxes of the times. Even for the die-hard JT fan this should be avoided at all costs as this pityful album is no accident and putting the blame on Vettese is really shunning the problem: Anderson's first solo album that came out around that time was the same crap. The concert of the period that I saw was slightly less awfull as the drums sounded sampled , the awful digital synth covering everything possible. No wonder they took a four year break , as Knave will go back to Broadsworth without alluding to this horrible blunder

How did Chantraine do that?! He gave it zero stars!
