well I did a search and could not find one.
I am thinking that there may be some derision in the ranks on whether or not Patton is a genius..... but to me, he can do no wrong... so we can discuss all things Patton here? oh and here is a great link to start things off... http://www.fabchannel.com/mike_patton_concert/2008-12-06 Edited by avalanchemaster - July 04 2008 at 01:53 |

You make a clickable link by highlighting the text you want hyperlinked and clicking on the little button that looks like this:
And you just copy-and-paste the web address into the box. Anyways, I like some of Patton's work with Zorn, but things like Bungle and Fantomas are usually a bit too heavy for my tastes. |

Me loves most of FNM's stuff, and Mr Bungle gets my tick of approval.
Fantomas I need to give it another go. I've heard all the albums, but never over and over again. |

thanks for the advice... well Bungle was my introduction to the wacky side of Patton. I had been a FNM fan for some time...I even have their "symbol" tattooed on meself.... |

I like all the stuff Zorn does that features him and Mr.Bungle is incredible.
There are some people that make too big a deal over him, I think he works out as being a part of a project then the leader. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-rljHfz1xo I love most of the projects he's involved in ... Kaada/Patton is particularly good. Even though it is all written by Kaada, Patton is a real asset ... huge stage presence. The only downside is that his extreme vocal style is probably difficult to reproduce on a constant level. I"m a big fan of Mr. Bungle and Patton's work with Zorn. I thought Peeping Tom was a little silly, and Fantomas grows against me the more I listen to it...
Disco Volante is one hell of an awesome album though. |

Peeping Tom may be the most "mainstream" thing he has ever done, but I still love it......Fantomas, however are insane and great! |

I like Mr. Bungle, FNM, Tomahawk, his solo albums were interesting, Zorn bootlegs have been entertaining, his work on Bjork's Medulla, and that stuff. Sometimes I think he gets to be too much though.

its been a while since I've gotten into any Patton related project, got burned out after a while, I still haven't around to checking out those Zorn albums he's participated on recently, (Moonchild, Astronome, Six litanies to heliogabalus) maybe soon
oh yeah, Medulla was amazing, |

Also his work with The Dillinger Escape Plan was of note. Good stuff.

I'm listening to Suspended Animation (Fantomas) at this very moment. It just arrived in the post. Highly enjoyable stuff!
After having heard numerous Bungle tracks, as well as Faith No More, much of his work with Zorn, and scraps of his other stuff i've realised i really need to grab some more Patton. I certainly need to get my hands on a couple of Mr. Bungle albums. And i'm definitely going to be picking up Delirium Cordia when i can. |

Delirium Cordia is superb/genius....
but it is one long track....and many people cannot get into it. It is sort of a dark ambient album.....and well, it is GREAT!

I listened to Six litanies to heliogabalus, last night, simply amazing...Im definitely going to buy this one soon! I think it was track 4 (Litany IV)...is definite proof what a vocal wizard Patton is, like I said Its been a while since I've paid any attention to Patton related projects but this reestablished my faith in the man,

not from Litanies, but Moonchild (they're part of a trilogy, together with Astronomy). |

I love this man's work;
All of it, even the hip hop.
I'm particularly impressed with the Zorn/Patton/Dunn collabs, Fantomas, Mike Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners, and Mr. Bungle. Faith no More is pretty awesome, as is Peeping Tom, but they're not my favorites. The man is so incredibly diverse that it's amazing.

I'm disappointed - neither of these players are avant-garde! Al di Meola.
haha i know. but the poll itself is avant-garde
|

A few years ago I'd have laughed at the suggestion that Mike Patton is a genius, but his work with Fantomas and his Zorn collaborations show that he is, at the very least, a major talent and a supremely versatile vocalist. Delirium Cordia, Suspended Animation and the Moonchild/Astronome/6 Litanies sequence are all remarkable albums and at least 2 (Suspended Animation and Astronome) are 5* masterpieces. The man just goes from strength to strength. |
