^ did you deliberately leave out the Fantomas debut? IMO it's better than Suspended Animation.

I haven't bought any Fantomas since Directer's Cut, (which I absolutely adore), but think I may just pick up Delirium Cordia now that that Zorn album got me all excited for Patton again,

*hey wasn't there supposed to be a follow up EP to Dirctor's Cut where they do TV theme songs? or perhaps that was just an old internet rumor,

has anybody else seen his acting debut?  I think the film is called Firecracker, it is about a circus and Patton plays a deliciously diabolical dude.....Wink

you NEED "suspended animation", f**king brilliant, high energy album of short bursts of songs.  also you previous comment about 6litanies, the vocal track.....yeah that proves he is genius, right?

I dunno about the debate between "Fantomas" and "Suspended Animation";
 
On one hand, you have the brilliantly original debut, but on the other, I feel that Suspended Animation is... I dunno, more refined?  It has a certain quality to it that I adore.

^ I see your point, but I prefer the brilliant originality over the refinement. Besides, the debut is infinitely more sinister and brutal. Maybe it's also the inherent 60s/70s vibe.Smile

For me Suspended Animation delivers what the debut promised; much as I like it, I don't think Fantomas has aged all that well, whereas Suspended Animation seems to reveal something new every time I listen to it.
 
As for Directors Cut - I read somewhere that they were going to include a version of Flashdance (What a Feeling), which could have been awe inspiring. I still think they should tackle some James Bond themes, or maybe action movies in general. My favourite cover versions this side of Laibach, whose German language version of Queen's One World is both funny and frightening 'Ein reich, ein volk, ein Laibach!' as one reviewer put it, and that was maybe the point that they were making.

That concert is fantastic! There was a note about Patton releasing it on DVD eventually. I am greatly anticipating that day.

Mike Patton is among a few of the men I heil in the highest regard musically. Others include Trickster G (Garm), Mozart and Beethoven...a rather elite class if I may say so myself.


Bungle is my favorite project.   Fantomas are really amazing.  FNM is great.  Loveage is some of the most sensual music I've ever hear.  Scoot over Barry White.  I like some Peeping Tom...granted in small doses. Everything the man touches is gold.


Anyone hear Mondo Cane?  It's Patton singling Italian Pop songs backed by an orchestra.  Youtube it.  Studio album will be released soon.

^Trickster G deserves his own thread for all of the great stuff he has done musically, especially his label, Jester Records, which has not released one bad thing;  all of the bands on that label rule.....check out Bogus Blimp if you like The Residents....

I would guess it's just words written down, maybe with some rhythmic indication in some sections.

"wind noises"
"crying"
"constipated whale"

Stuff like that Tongue Whatever it is, it's a great piece. Almost... transfixing.

I have no idea about any set dates for anything relating to it, but I've read in some places that apparently no acoustic instruments are being used on the next album, but other than that, I don't know much more.

mike patton is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. He's one of the few vocal innovators or experimentalists that ive heard of. even if i dislike a song hes done, it is always so god d*mn interesting i cant turn it off.
Mr. BUngle is a favorite of mine but im getting into fantomas and want/need to check out Jon Zorn and all his stuff.
I also really like his collaboration with the Dillinger Escape Plan.

In terms of artists/bands that i admire most, Mike Patton in his various incarnations ranks right up there with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Gabriel-era Genesis, etc.

There are very few people involved in making music that deserve the "genius" label, but he's one of them, IMO.

I have Angel Dust, all three Mr. Bungle albums, The Director's Cut, and Irony is a Dead Scene (all of which are totally essential, btw).

I want more Patton, but I'm unsure where to turn to next. Reading through this thread has helped somewhat, but I'm still not sure what to get next if, say, I only wanted to get 2-3 more albums that he's on.

I would recommend getting "Patton/Kaada- romances" next....it is a very intimate/private and emotional album.....somewhat avant garde.....all good!
