Taken from their myspace:
"Strinpurée Band plays 100% raw progressive kantele music. The trio, hailing from the backwoods of the Northern Savo region in Finland, is here to win over audiences of all kinds with their innovative instrumental sound. The band has already, in its couple of years of existence, managed to develop a sound which is highly personal. Partial credit for this of course also goes to Stringpurée Band's unique line up, which consists of electric kantele, bass and drums. The original music composed by the three members echoes the roots of Finnish progressive and psychedelic musical tradition. So go ahead, have some Stringpurée. Influences: Wigwam, Finnforest, Pekka Pohjola, Tasavallan Presidentti, Piirpauke, Edward Vesala, Martti Pokela, Jean Sibelius, Arvo Pärt, Alice Coltrane, Pink Floyd, Tom Waits, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, Frank Zappa" Fascinating music! Prog-folk and jazz-rock teams might want to have a look... http://www.myspace.com/stringpureeband |

Senni Eskelinen & Stringpurée Band great band, absolutely stunning sound... I looked up the instrument, Kantele, a Finnish Dulcimer: seems to be the national instrument, they have some jazz influences, but it's more what I would call imaginary folk music, they deserve a 100% to be here IMO : ProgFolk or Eclectic

Thanks for checking them out guys! I have the album on loan from the library, so if any additional info is needed (line-up, biographical info, anything), I might be able to help.

Jimbo, I just purchased their album as an Amazon download, but it didn't come with any artwork. Here's what I found on-line for the album credits, but if you have anything different on the actual liner notes I'd appreciate a PM or note here with more details. Also, any interesting bio tidbits would be appreciated since there's not much more in English on the web than what you quoted at the beginning of this thread (although I've found a couple of interesting concert reviews). Thanks, Bob... er, "Clem" - Senni Eskelinen / electric kantele, vocals - Niko Votkin / drums - Kalle Ylitalo / bass |

^Hehe, nice one. I like this band. And the fact that it too is Finnish. I might even get into them much more. Definately worth adding. |
