Stian Carstensen, Clinton McKinnon and the Estradasphere guys collaborating? Colour me excited; thanks for the recommendation!

I second the praise that's been expressed for Black Midi, October Equus, Anthropods, 5uu's, Alex Ward and Join The Din, and would like to also recommend National Diet's The Noon Hour.

I'm enjoying the new Join The Din that released earlier this year, not really RIO, they describe themselves as Jazz, Afrobeat, Psychedelia, Progressive Rock, EDM. Charlie Cawood of Knifeworld recently joined the band.

I also got a big kick out of this band called Bark!, but they didn't come out this year and are not on PA (they might be a bit too much free jazz for PA?):

I haven't had time to listen to as much as previous years, but these are some nice finds...

Pierre Vervloesem - A Carbon Copy of Secrets - https://pierrevervloesem.bandcamp.com/album/a-carbon-copy-of-secrets
Pierre Vervloesem and Eric Thielemans - Masterpieces of Irish Folklore, Vol. 12 - https://pierrevervloesem.bandcamp.com/album/masterpieces-of-irish-folklore-vol-12
Alex Ward + Mark Browne + Pat Thomas - Oxford 1992 - https://scatterarchive.bandcamp.com/album/oxford-1992

I still haven't bought the new Yang, Flying Luttenbachers, and 5uu's albums, but might do so soon.

I also got a big kick out of this band called Bark!, but they didn't come out this year and are not on PA (they might be a bit too much free jazz for PA?):

I feel like I've listened to not alot of music that came out this year, RIO related or otherwise. Ouch

Anyone got any recommendations from this year?

One thing that I think is noteworthy is the "Reboot" album from Japanese outsider/weird-out band Katra Turana who I thought had vanished off the face of the earth after the mid-80s but all of sudden decided to show up again this year with a brand new release.

Not this time. They've come out and said no CD will be made.

Doesn't Cuneiform normally also release a CD at some point? I thought the Accordo dei Contrari CD didn't start showing up until a month or two after the download was released.

Same difference to me.

But I understand this is an unpopular opinion.

Quite an all-star line-up! First track is sounding promising so far.
