This American band is serious! anyone else heard of this band? i know of few of you have. I have to say i only have 2 albums of theirs but they are both some of the best modern jazz-rock/fusion ive ever heard, competing with some of the best from the 70s.

Their music reminds me of some of the early 70s jazz-rock bands, utilizing some classic instruments and sounds, not to mention you can tell these guys love prog rock. however, they cleverly fuse middle eastern music and world music perfectly with the classic jazz-rock sound, but they have a modern, progressive edge, since you can tell the guitarist is influenced by post-87 John Scofield and John McLaughlin. And they have a little of the modern jam band sound mixed in there, but the much-less-utilized vocals are crazy, almost Zappa-like in their approach. The production for these guys' albums are so good and the music is just crazy! anyone else know about this fantastic band? Might be my favorite band to have come out in the last 10 years.

A very schizophrenic group.  One song they sound like the Mahavishnu Orchestra the next they sound like a New York City bar band.  I like them.

i think part of that is their keyboardist. He uses some of the best sounds you could have. You know he likes guys like Jan Hammer, George Duke, Rick Wakeman, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Page McConnell, etc... I like that they have a lot of prog influences so they remind me of YES or Return to Forever sometimes. But they have this little twist to their music i cant truly describe.

Agreed. In part it is the multi-cultural references, e.g. of Indo-Pakistani(_American???) of Fareed Haque (also check his group's albums!), German, former bassist with McLaughlin Kai Eckhardt. Recommend Live Volume 1 with Zakir Hussain guesting on tablas.

I've bought 3 separate live albums, Live Volume1 to 3 from Home Grown in the USA. And I see recently a fourth has been added to their lists.
