Now, that'sa poll! Who shrieks better? Wink Myself I prefer David Surkamp with his trembling voice a la Edith Piaf.
How 'bout you?

Good poll! I vote Edith Piaf! Just kidding.  Despite the similarities, I love Surkamp's voice, but don't much like Lee's.

that's how about me !   Approve Surkamp is amazing but Geddy is a great as well.

BTW Geddy will probably win this poll easily because of how well known he is and his amazing bass playing which will play a part in things.

This poll is about vocals. Geddy's bass skills don't matter here.

This is a strange case, I mentioned repeatedly that I can’t stand Jon Anderson’s voice, for the same reason I shouldn’t like Geddy and David Surkamp, but I believe we are talking about different issues.

Jon for example throws his voice as it comes, he IMO doesn’t have any work, he uses his natural range and I find it annoying.

Geddy does a excellent work modulating and making variations, he gets the heavy edge very well and manages to vary his range in order to increase or decrease the intensity, despite this fact and that I recognize he’s good, still have slight problems with some of his material (Not considering his bass abilities in the comparison, because that’s not what we should be talking about).

David Surkamp is a special case, his range is TERRIBLE, but the guy focuses in creating a UNIQUE style in Prog, took the Edith Piaff vibrato and a bit of other French Chansonniers and creates an incredibly dramatic sound.

You may not like it (I like it a lot) or love it, but without David Surkamp, Pavlov’s Dog would had remain unknown, being that the first thing you notice is his voice. If you ad to the equation that Pavlov’s Dog music is essentially dramatic and melancholic, the almost crying voice of Surkamp is just perfect.

A good vocalist is not necessarily the one with a better natural range, sometimes a limited vocalist with well worked voice makes a better singer than a soulless almost tenor.

So my vote goes for David Surkamp.

Iván

That's one thing about Rush......I can't play an entire CD without tiring of the vocals.
