After browsing a bit around the Polls section I saw that there was a lack of Symphonic Prog Polls.. (Only a few pages but I think Symphonic Prog can use a little love at the moment. IMO)
So its like the Great Eclectic Face -Off thread I created except with the great Symphonic Prog masters. I dunno about you guys but as I write this thread I'm having a bit of difficulty over which band I like better... because I mean they are usually regarded as some of the best progressive rockers that have ever existed... but anyway here goes. Once again the stage is set for yet another epic showdown between the two greatest names in the prog world, Yes and Genesis, the epitome of the symphonic prog world. So in your honest opinion, which band is better? Yes, the band that was renowned for its exotic sound scape with interesting keyboards, prominent bass, interesting vocal structure and very complex song structures? Or Genesis, the band that also took their own style of symphonic prog to the next level with great vocals, amazing guitar work, awesome keyboards and equally unique soundscape? |

I'm a big fan of both, but would always vote Genesis.

The only great Genesis albums were early on, but since all the early albums make my top 10, I vote Genesis. Yes has some great albums (The Yes Album, Fragile, Drama, and Close to the Edge), but they also have really crappy albums (Open Your Eyes, Big Generator, etc.). Anyway, even Yes' best albums can't compare to The Lamb or Foxtrot. |

I don't know what you did for your search, but I assure you this poll has been done many times.
And my answer remains the same: Yes by miles and miles. |

Ivan you are very probably right.
I'm sure we only had this poll about a week ago. In a way, it is quite apt, as I find it very hard to split these two. Last week I voted Yes, this time I'll vote Genesis, and my conscience is clear.

Lucky you who voted in a similar thread last week......I'm here for 4 years and have lost the count of how many times I voted Genesis and lost
Still I'm stubborn and will vote for the G-Men to see if a miracle happens.
BTW: Just joking, who cares about the winner?

Genesis comfortably for me. Gabriel's lyrics and vocals are among my favourite ever, and listening to a few of their classics again recently, the sheer quality and coordination of the rhythm section of Collins and Rutherford has struck me more and more. Not to mention Hackett's absolutely gorgeous guitar stylings on Dancing With The Moonlit Knight. I do really like Yes at their peak, but Genesis peaked both longer and higher for me, I think. Genesis' subtlety gets me every time.
