Hi users of Prog Archives

Did anyone hear about the Danish band Day of Phoenix ? I hope to have them cleared for addition on Prog Archives. Does anyone have any comments regarding Day of Phoenix ?

If you want to search out their discography they have only made two albums: Wide Open N-Way from 1970 and The Neighbours Son from 1972. Both albums are produced by Tony Reeves ( Colosseum, Greenslade) and he also contributes with bass a few places.

Their music is psychadelic rock, but with lots of progressive tendencies.

Hope to hear some comments.

Thanks for the comment Zafreth

If anyone wants to read about the band visit:

There is a very short video clip here with Day of Phoenix among other danish groups from the time, but I wouldnīt say that this clip is representative for their general style.

I suggest you look up their first album Wide Open N-Way as it is the most proggy.

I haveseen their namles on many prog cartalogue and they are part of the groups that founded Secret Oyster, so I'm up for their inclusion

Either psych-prog or proto-prog for me.

I'll see that the tams worry about this.
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Thanks Zafreth but I already collected info and pictures for a possible addition. I can also create a bio if someone gives me an OK, but I wonīt start working on that one before I get a clear indication that Day of Phoenix will be added.

Maybe jazz rock/ fusion would be a more suiting place ? They have influences from a couple of genres so they are a bit hard to place.

hi Umur , i use to have a vinyl album for this band in 1974 , i've got it from Frankfurt , but  for unfortunate reasons i've lost it in 1979 . But i still have it on cassette , with no song order , no names ( i forgot all details ) , but i'm willing to get the other album from 1972 in add to to < Wide Open > , and so far i believe they must be included in PA , as Psychadelic Progressive  by all means ........  keep on the good moves .......

You can get a CD re-issue with both studio albums included. I only have a double LP re-issue myself where both albums are included.

we'll have eclectic look at it... they are a no brainer for addition... just trying to find the best fit for them now.

I don't check every thread here these days, if you or Micky mentioned it in the Eclectic Team thread, might have forgotten about it. Of course we need sufficient samples to evaluate, and the youtube clip and the mp3 at mog is not enough.  I actually saw this topic before, but hadn't found enough music to evaluate (sorry if this was raised in the Eclectic team thread and forgot about it).  Based on what little I've heard, it sounds better for Psych or Proto, as Sean mentioned.  Checks progfreak, it was under evaluation by the psych team http://progfreak.com/Day-Of-phoenix,_dbe,artists,_auto_6012996.xhtml?path=pa/recent
