I was surprised to see that Persephone's Dream does not appear to be included here on PA.  They are a female fronted progressive metal band from Pennsylvania whose latest release Pyre of Dreams was released on ProgRock Records.

Here is a link to a thread started by Big Boss announcing the album.

Here is a link to their website:

And here is a link to their MySpace page:

I have an older album from them, and I just downloaded the Pyre of Dreams album from eMusic.com.  What brought them to mind was I was just reading a review of this new album in Progression Magazine where they are listed under Progressive Metal and the album received 15 out of a possible 16 stars.

All apologies if they have already been considered but the search function revealed that they have rarely been discussed here on PA, and Mike's site did not list them as under consideration for PA.

Thank you for your time and I hope that you enjoy what you hear.

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Scott

EDIT:  My buddies have spoken and thus I have edited the title to suggest them to the Eclectic and Heavy Prog teams.  Despite what some might thing of me, I can be quite the agreeable sort when I want to be.

Ha... these guys are from pittsburgh and they're a good time, even if they do take themselves a bit too seriously.

I wish they'd get more recognition so they could stop doing shows at firehalls and VFWs and stuff.

15/16 for that release is a tad too high I think, and if they are clear cut prog metal I'm equally unsure about.

But one of many outfits that probably should be somewhere in the database here yeah.

^^again, I tend to agree with Olav on this one....

are they prog?  yes, I think so..

are they metal?  no, not really.... personally, I would pass them on to the Eclectic and Heavy Prog teams to haggle over...but sticking my neck out, they are a bit more on the Eclectic side, if you ask me...Embarrassed

I have only heard their Opposition album 4 or 5 years ago and I don't remember it being particularly metallic in nature.  I downloaded the new album and will try and listen to it in the next couple of days and see if it changes my mind at all.  Making the change from Prog Metal to the other categories was kind of an easy sell for me.

They sound more like Neo to me, but they sort of fit into several prog genres.

Also, these guys were running craigslist ads looking for a bass player a few months ago.  I thought hard about trying out, but decided I probably don't have the chops they're looking for LOL

Alright, so we have prog metal, eclectic, heavy prog, neo, w/Neo could possibly be symphonic.  Sounds like a cut and dry case for RIO to me. Wink  Quite frankly, I think that they are kind of spacey/psychedelic as well.  Egads.  Good luck with categorizing this one guys.

I don't really think they fit the 'neo' tag personally...Ermm

...but it will be great fun watching the competing vultures tear the carcass apart...LOL

I just listened to the tracks on their MySpace page.  Synesthesia is quite good and probably would qualify as metal.  The rest of the songs were pretty good as well, but not really metal in my mind.

prog for sure, strong metallic elements but not rooted in metal, not terribly eclectic either and I don't know if they quite cut it as Xover..  I think Neo should have a listen and if they pass, Heavy will certainly consider them

I listened earlier and would vote no for Eclectic based on myspace.

Hi!   Looking forward to you guys reviewing the new CD.  Persephone's Dream was categorized as "Symphonic Neo-Prog" at the 3RP last year.  I'm not sure if that fits either.  The new CD might be more confusing for categorizing the band.  Looking forward to a review for sure!

heh. wow! never knew we were so hard to categorize - though I agree with all of you! :)

I am curious as to what you all with think about the new CD: Pan - An Urban Pastoral. It's releasing Sept 7, 2010 on ProgRock Records. Definitely proggier than previous releases!
